. Albanians must control their own fate. A moral compass and a sense of balance are needed to counter national disintegration. The International Community, while unable to curb the massive Serbian destruction, killings and ethnic cleansing, is degenerating into demagogic mobilization. Milošević’s challenge will be avoided only when the international community overcomes its complexes about taking control of its own fate. But Albanians themselves must not blindly follow utopian schemes. The need for moral consensus underscores the necessity of a strong national commitment. What the political forces do not do, the people themselves must do. Solidarity with the brothers of Kosovo who have been forcibly expelled is not shown by allocating USD 10 million for food emergencies, as the Albanian government is doing.
