The government, a show with the dead
Arben ILIAZI
Minister Koçi stated yesterday that “events such as the one in Berat prove that our society has fallen prey to moral degeneration, and therefore we must find the strength to heal ourselves.” A member of the Executive responsible for Public Order adopts a privileged, didactic stance, calling on society to cleanse itself of “sin.” All of this is a show that rules out the goodwill of a government willing to accept challenges and respond to them. Since the minister regards his relationship with his worldview as sacred, he prefers to play the role of a “sociologist” and call on Albanians to become managers of society. This happens when almost all Albanians feel they must take responsibility for a government that is not working properly, yet this is turned around against a government official who seems to regard his position as a hereditary possession of the regime. Melo: The Ministry of Public Order in the dock
The Berat massacre shakes Minister Koçi’s position in the governing coalition. The chairman of PNDJ, Vasil Melo, has suggested that he favors the resignation of Public Order Minister Petro Koçi: “This case has once again put the Ministry of Public Order in the dock, as it bears the main responsibility for what happened yesterday in Berat.”
