By Agim BAÇI Greece has left all the “quiet routes” behind in its efforts to be as influential as possible in Albania, and for several days now has resorted to overt measures to show Albanians, and especially official Tirana, “that it has a lot of power in its hands.” Thus, unlike ever before, from Greece to Albania have flown at the same time both emigrants returning for no reason and Greek businessmen “who have a lot at stake.” The victims of these two extreme movements are also two extremes: innocent Albanians who only want to work, and inferior politicians who are frightened “by a single stone.” While the former feel insulted by the two blows, the latter are openly displaying their inferiority toward the Greeks (let us not forget the reaction of Albania’s chief diplomat Paskal Milo, two days after the influx of refugees began, when he pledged “to review relations with the Greeks”). Why these two completely opposite things happen, with the same sense of inferiority on the part of the government, is very simple: the two routes planned to end in Durrës, Corridors 8 and 10, leave Greece considerably outside the important interests that traverse Europe.
