The Albanian Utopia
By Arben ILIAZI
The myth of Sarajevo is circulating [?], once again around the world. But where is the Albanian world? Where was this myth made? Has European chloroform killed more, or the American sortia [?]? Under Yugoslavia, while Serbian terror continues, for many Albanian politicians heroism seems more important than democracy. Albania would be more virtuous if it avoided the crisis, but it chose a political beginning with the heroes and institutions of Kosovo [that?]. Yet the Albanian world of Kosovo will continue with Albania’s mission [?!], because of [duke?] an abandoned country [të?] Sarajevo by everyone and moving [sic] with one eye on NATO and the other on Tirana and [guided?] through rhetoric.
One cannot accept the place of a political scheme through which the natural development of Albanian politics has been hindered. All this is happening at a time when Europe is seeking stability and Albanians need a model. The Albanian opposition must understand that balance is not maintained with internal maneuvers, but with stable institutions.
Further on, this article addresses the relationship between political forces in Albania and the reactions to the Kosovo crisis, highlighting the contrast between idealism and political realism. The author emphasizes that freedom cannot be built on improvisation and that citizenship requires responsibility.
If Albanian democracy remains hostage to empty rhetoric, then its future will be uncertain. Albania must build a political culture that does not depend on myths, but on shared responsibility.
