Democracy or democrature?

Democracy or democrature? By Maksim BEQJA To analyze the key parameters of a society’s development in relation to a power that tries to present itself as the embodiment of its own full health is quite difficult. All the more so under the extremely abnormal conditions of today’s Albanian development, where the whole society is facing a rise in living standards, high levels of organized crime, disregard for human life, loss of property, and unemployment on a frightening scale. The degree of such developments minimizes the foundations in a quasi-coup sense. It is difficult to understand why it is still not the left-wing government, and the unified government of law and order. As the stability government proclaimed by Ilir Meta, especially for the elections of 14 September, decreed as such, so that even the adjective stamped these elections that will be personalized. He has in any case lost the calculations. In a way, it is becoming increasingly clear that the left-wing government is manifesting the imposition of diktat with a sad scene of violence. More and more, the tendency to block the pluralist process, distort democracy, and undermine the rule of law is becoming evident. To clarify and explain the extent of this great wound, we must somewhat return in retrospect to the events of the last four years. Such tensions soften when the stability of free elections is overcome and more grounds are being left for an unlimited, deliberate domination. Ilir Meta announced a new government, while in his statements he spoke about the Albanian crisis, political responsibility, and the strengthening of democratic institutions. But this announcement remains a slogan, since in reality things are being done differently. In the same spirit, critical voices are excluded and control over political, economic, and social life is attempted. Democracy cannot survive without a functioning opposition, without free elections, and without respect for the law. Otherwise, it slips toward a new form of authoritarianism, which can rightly be called democrature.
