"Friends of Albania" betrayed by the Albanian state
By Arben SHYTI
If parliament supports the decision to release activists sentenced to death for terrorism, or if in another way the famous exoneration of those accused of murder in Kosovo, another, organic[?] government decision would put an end to the illusion of keeping Albania on the path of democracy and reforms.
If parliament supports the de-
cision to release activists sen-
tenced to death for terrorism,
or if in another way the fa-
mous exoneration of those ac-
cused of murder in Kosovo,
another, famous exoneration of
those accused of murder in Ko-
sovo, as is the famous decision
of the Supreme Court in favor
of the release from prison of
members of Gazmend Braka-
sim[?]'s gang, can turn into a
signal[?] of a return to back-
wardness. Although in the
current conditions of law, it
may also lead to a game of
roles[?]. However, this atti-
tude is such that it discredits
the government’s thesis before
foreign diplomats and inter-
national structures that Alba-
nians are capable of building
a state. In any case, the mem-
ory of foreign people close to
Albania will often keep this
kind of attitudes and deci-
sions in mind.
The true friends of Albania
are those foreigners who care
about the fate of this country,
and not those kinds of people
who, from the passion of a
minute or from a fictional sen-
timentalism, close their eyes to
facts. For this job, NGOs and
European parliaments were also
invented, which often keep the
anti-Albanian circles in Belgrade
sleepless. Tolerance toward
crime is a clear symptom of the
lack of maturity of a state that
does not know how to make
the distinction between poli-
tics and abominations[?]. And
the most serious aspect of this
behavior of the Albanian state
toward those released and par-
doned as terrorists and murder-
ers is the fact that the doors of
Europe have been opened to
them.
Organized to a large extent
from the scum of criminal soci-
ety, the exodus of Albanians has
revealed, for better or for worse,
the face of Albania. Thousands
of mafiosi and traffickers cross
into the territory of the Euro-
pean Union with Albanian doc-
uments and visas, poisoning so-
cial life from the south to the
north of the continent. This en-
tire flood of people could never
have crossed the borders of
European states and become a
small element[?] of organized
crime, corruption and prosti-
tution, if we had not faced a
neglectful state. Those who are
today on the side of the politi-
cal class with all the wealth put
at the disposal of campaigns
and election companies are a
large part of the bosses shaped
by trafficking and crime. As
long as criminals have certifi-
cates and residence permits
with Albanian citizenship, it is
clear that this cooperation was
not made without the support
and help of the government.
Together with the dirty trans-
mission of the Albanian image,
when once again in a meeting
with European officials in the
halls of the ministries and par-
liaments of this continent, it is
the freedom of Albanian crimi-
nals and their concealment be-
fore the law that has made pos-
sible the practical increase of
Europe’s opposition to Kosovars
and Albanians. After all, the
Albanian state has the duty to
distinguish between those who
leave the world out of misery,
out of the conditions of an un-
bearable life and out of danger
to life, and that part of society
that is indifferent to the laws
of other states.
The growing tolerance to-
ward it by politics and the cor-
rupt part of justice in Albania
comes at the same time as a
punishment for those thousands
of honest Albanians who want
to integrate into Europe as a
hope and not as a new burden
for the old societies of this con-
tinent. The source of this re-
peated tolerance is the narrow
calculation of political interest
and the measures of decisions
taken in favor of a dark and ag-
gressive part of our society.
Therefore this perverse policy
toward crime and leniency to-
ward it, instead of helping Al-
banians in the European states,
does the opposite, making a
new mystery harder against
them and in favor of the para-
dox[?] of how a country with
democratic aspirations has re-
cently managed to build an-
other face within the continent.
