Haxhi Qamili, Mjako and the Chinese
By Teodor Keko
Even yesterday the office inspection, came to me [?...].
Even yesterday the inspection of my office came to me yellowed, the first difference from what I remembered was that a shooting target sign had been set up but I do not remember it, because the government made me powerless and voiceless, and indeed, I could cry only for real, and this that we have had our businesses well and quietly, to show ourselves to the others, in the tragic half-end of winter. Absurdly, we are suffering more than the refugees. Taxes for the non-payers amid the words and the paraphernalia, in Tirana, calmly, is what perhaps will find the heads of the banks. From another word, we have gathered in secrecy, we even have the telephones, we have made merry with foreign money and with fishing, up to those Albanians who have left on the road. Difficult, even by fate, to digest the inner bewilderment. Recorded, in no government, citizens to think that we accomplished a near-final conclusion together with the government. In itself, private property has suffered a great damage, which should have been used above all by the government, since this government is incapable of carrying it out, or, indeed, does not have such a thing. Who knows! Have they let it slip from their hands? Have they done it by signs? Now I am mourning and my hopes for Albania are fading away. Dozens of Kosovars are dying every day in Albania. Who will be held responsible? And us? The government? Parliament? The ministry? The prime minister? The president? Who? All of them perhaps, but not the government, because the government seems to have another kind of death. It holds press conferences about something that cannot be remembered. Will the state, sir, do everything to fulfill a duty? Or will it watch me sit and cry? If I end this article with such a question, they would say what kind of mad writer I am. We would continue asking and pretending that nothing happened. And apparently, that is also the logic of this Albanian summer.
