Again stirring in the cup?

By Daut GRECA In Albania, accusing one another has become fashionable; one side for shame[?], the other for hidden financing... In Albania, accusing one another has become fashionable: one side accuses the other of corruption, the other of trafficking and immorality, gangs accuse others of betrayal and corruption. They dig up each other's dirty laundry, for shame[?], but only enough to make it a fashion. Firecrackers thrown to take each other's breath and voice away. The quotation of hidden wealth, the financing of parties for the electoral campaign, the recruitment of militants, expulsions, imprisonments, withdrawal and security. All these have become like an old fable recited every day. Thus, in reality, the public is not intoxicated by them. There is also another issue: if they are true, why do the prosecutor's office, the police and the courts not act? If they are slander, who is responsible? In this confusion, Albanian politics resembles people who quarrel over property but do not go to court. Today the accusation is thrown that so-and-so has wealth accumulated in office, that another so-and-so has links to smuggling, that someone has profited from power. Then everything dies down with no legal outcome. Why? Because it is done more for political effect than for justice. Instead of institutions, party tribunes and press offices speak. Instead of evidence, insinuations circulate. In this climate, the citizen remains confused and unprotected. This is our daily political cup, where each one stirs his own mud and tries to throw it in the other's face. Meanwhile, people's problems remain the same: unemployment, poverty, lack of order, and the slow progress of the state. If politics is to be serious, let it speak with evidence; otherwise, this refrain will continue and the public will hear it with a bitter smile. See p. 2
