. By Teodor KEKO. A few days ago, the European Union classified the countries that have priority, or not, for joining the European Community. Albania was in the third group of countries to be admitted to this large family, or, more accurately, in the group of the last countries! It looks as if we are talking about the ranking of football teams, but this time we are talking about all of us! Why do Europeans view Albania through such dark glasses? There are several reasons, but the main ones are the repeated mistakes of our government officials, who continue to run the country with the motto “hit it and let’s hit it” and “whatever happens, happens”! This directionless politics is not only entangling us with everyone and making us a real riddle for the wider world, but is also confusing our own world! The legalization of crime and the failure to resolve the issue of private property, the pitiful state of the press, classified as “the worst in Europe,” corruption and the lack of independence of the judiciary, plus our madness, have made Europe afraid of us. Thus, we have to pay for the sins of all our “barzimatike” politicians, who only know how to look after their own interests: they forget us when a revolt breaks out and run away from the ministries, or they forget us when they need to win within their own parties, as is happening now, on the eve of the PD and PS congresses, when nobody has us in mind! Ultimately, Albania is showing the civilized world that it has no class of politicians capable of governing it “with education.” The time has come for major changes to be made: educated and enlightened people, who studied at the best universities in the world, should be brought into leadership—and such people exist, but nobody is noticing them. The time has come for us all to gather on a grand boulevard and discuss, without any hierarchy, the fate of our country and the ways out of the catastrophe.
