The Council of “Eu re qe”, has said Dosropës, i bruj tojevskij. To forgive criminals with mercy means Christian rën, gives a people to the hands of criminals. During the recent meeting with President Mei dani, Deputy Director of the Political Directorate of the KE, Jean Louis Laurent, insisted that the death penalty should no longer exist in Albanian legislation. Meidani has two options: either listen to his people or obey the KE. The petition prepared by the Republicans shows that the people support this punishment. Why so much humanity and tolerance toward criminals and no chance at all for a people seeking peace and democracy? Why so much rifkë in the rën of a state? The criminal atmosphere in Albania has put democracy at risk. It is heartbreaking: crime threatens human rights, causes mass emigration within and outside the country, and drives the crisis of trust to its peak. Our senior officials play the buffoon before international organizations, without arguing the catastrophic consequences brought about by abolishing the death penalty. “What are you acquitting? Do not condemn yourselves, but at least call evil evil.” To forgive criminals means to condemn an entire people. With crime underfoot, there can be no integration, only regression. If Europe does not want to help us, let it apply methods to avert crime. It should not be swayed by the promises of the government’s and Albanian state’s “kin-ezëve”. For us to integrate into Europe, human life must acquire meaning. The KE should establish appropriate mechanisms so that crime can be prevented. The ultimatum to abolish the death penalty is unprecedented, since it disregards our democratic wishes and our right to live as free citizens. The KE may regard this as a victory for its principles, but for us Albanians it means moving toward the end of a dark tunnel, with no hope of survival. The KE’s ultimatum is not an act of inclusion, but of exclusion. Ultimately, it is the Albanian people who must have their say in a referendum, since they have the right to live.
