Politicians pretend to quarrel

By Birçe HASKO Do you think that in many cases Albanian politicians put themselves in the position of actors, playing roles before the people and the electorate? I think they are completely incapable of playing a particular role well, or of presenting themselves as positive before the people when, in fact, some of them are not. On the other hand, every artist is, in a way, a representative of his people. Personally, a few years ago, the village headman in my village, in Dukat, told me, “Prepare the documents and I’ll help you become a member of parliament,” while I replied, “Thank you, but only this way am I a true representative; if I put myself forward as a candidate, they’ll also dig up my mother’s and father’s histories to find flaws in my character, and these things hurt an artist’s pride.” In this case, I want to add that politics is a whore, so what will real womanizers do? They will make every effort to find these flaws even in someone who does not have them. Everyone wants to show off their cleverness in politics, but, on the other hand, they say that “everyone boasts in proportion to what they lack.” Continued on p. 18
