Before the tears shed over the funerals caused by horrific killings by masked men had even dried, the state’s lackeys, hangers-on and sycophants rushed to open the champagne, preparing to celebrate the abolition of the death penalty in Albania and show the Council of Europe the extent of “our civilization.” Meanwhile, the madness of Albanian reality, which cannot be captured in analysts’ catalogues, has exceeded every benchmark, once again demonstrating the undeniable connection between today’s backwardness and rising crime on the one hand, and state management on the other. This is happening precisely at a time when in the USA the number of people sentenced to death this year has reached 73. Two days ago, the latest execution was carried out in the most developed country in the world. This, as well as the USA’s rapid development of social structures, should remind Albanian government officials that the greatest mercy is demonstrated by taking a merciless stance toward murderers, criminals, and those who recognize neither honor nor religion. And while Albanian parliamentarians are discussing measures for rehabilitation or light prison sentences, it often happens that murderers and criminals, before carrying out their killings, have already hired lawyers for large sums in order to secure acquittal. It is certain that, faced with a law guaranteeing capital punishment, they would be deterred by fear, and a reduction in crime rates would be achieved within a short time. By acting humanely and tolerantly toward these merciless killers, the Albanian Government has instead chosen to punish and terrorize defenseless people. The recent statements by Gjinushi and Doke once again showed that nothing more can be improved in this regard as far as part of Albanian politics is concerned. A nationwide referendum would be an appropriate opportunity to address this. The people would have their say. And it is well known that the people do not forgive the monsters of society; indeed, it is certain they will not tolerate their protectors in power either.
