Agim MEZA Will people remember that the fighting of the last few days within the Republican Party and the Democratic Party was a kind of political war? Will the old tendencies[?] have returned to the hall of the Palace of Congresses, and did it feel like the end of another era? Perhaps not, but the experience of the last few days and the words given by some political protagonists of the right create the impression of an abnormal battle. Instead of an open competition of ideas and alternatives, the public is facing accusations, insinuations and a language that often comes close to political hostility. In these circumstances, the question of whether we are dealing with democratic rivalry or a “war for existence” remains open. If the right-wing parties do not manage to maintain a balance between competition and cooperation, the risk is that the damage will not remain only within them, but will affect the entire opposition. Democracy requires confrontation, but not the destruction of the opponent. And that is the test that Albanian politics must pass.
