Today the Meta Government will celebrate with champagne the parliamentary vote of confidence it is expected to receive from the majority, at a time when, according to its programme platform, it is clear that this government may not make it to New Year. This is because Meta, yesterday, although he mentioned “the caravan’s star” as a figure of speech to compare with the Albanian Constitution, did so to divert the public’s hysteria as it waits day after day for constitutional rule to be implemented with regard to private property. But yesterday Prime Minister Meta forgot to speak about private property and the implementation of the law, about restoring a legitimate right that has remained suspended because of communist-era speculation. The head of this Government did not forget yesterday to specifically mention his cabinet’s priorities concerning greenhouse vegetables. Meanwhile, he completely forgot to speak about the need to give concrete effect to the constitutional articles on private property, which is the “Achilles’ heel” of every democratic and civilized society. This may, of course, be a coincidence, but it is a clear signal of the blind flight on which the Meta Government and those standing behind him are embarking. Meta also tried to deny the fact that this government is the result of a years-long crisis that is deepening by the day. But despite his demagogic efforts, the truth is clear in the lack of prospects, declining prosperity, rising unemployment and crime, etc. Meta also spoke about electricity, water, employment, and so on, in order to present himself vividly as a leader who sits knee-to-knee with the people. He even promised that the Government would radically change the situation, but meanwhile most of the country’s citizens heard him neither on the radio nor on television because of the lack of electricity, which has neither been stabilized nor can be stabilized with words and ridiculous promises. Finally, Meta said he would fight corruption and, on this point, inadvertently told the truth: most of the ministers lied. This naturally brings to mind “Arturo Ui,” precisely at the moments when he spoke of prosperity and democratic principles, while his associates laughed out loud. Let us hope that their laughter does not turn to tears for the future of the Nation.
