Grotesque theatre of the rulers

While representatives of the various institutions of the Albanian state present this country as an oasis of calm, with government, institutions and parliament firmly established in democracy, the head of state remembers to visit, together with the speaker of his parliament, the offices of the chief prosecutor. Meanwhile, the highest investigative authority in the country is presented as one of the main characters in a scenario whose other characters are senior state officials. On the other hand, at the end of the week, all this hot wave in Albanian politics is not linked to the discussion of the problems of Albanian citizens, nor to the institutionalization of judicial reform. On the contrary, all this uproar is happening over the appointment of a chief prosecutor. As it seems, the way of governing in our country still drags on from the period when power was presented as a personal privilege. This governance has also definitively sealed in the judiciary the institution of dependence of everything around it on the person and not on the law. We are dealing with a new authoritarianism that was served to us as modernizing, and as for the way it is being done, precisely because it is being done in such a way, it proves even more clearly what it is. This kind of governance is as primitive as it is ridiculous. If one of the executive chief's opponents does not comply, then the chief comes out of the office and makes spectacular and forceful visits. If yesterday the chief prosecutor was summoned to the offices of the government authorities under the justification of an implementation procedure for the legalization of the opposition, then everyone looked in amazement at the caliber to which this government's megalomania has now reached. But although Albanian politics is tired of this kind of government circus, part of the viewers, or perhaps all of them, should have understood that the end of a scenario does not always include the surrender of those who were powerful for a short time. Godo, responding to an interview on “TV Klan”, declared that the public, inclined toward evil and shaped by the long-standing trauma it has suffered, has begun to like this kind of spectacle. In his book titled “The Man with the Ball”, he had darkly predicted the long-term rule of his opponents. At that time this would have been a government of the PD’s accumulation type, leading toward public ruin. If we look closely at the present day, it is true that the mass public has had this kind of attitude toward politics, but nevertheless it was truly unbelievable how far the PS government group could go with this kind of theatre. The government, although harshly criticized up to now, has in no way justified anything except the ridiculous role it gives its representatives. Meanwhile, the media are portraying this kind of opposition in the government offices as a kind of nightmare brought by the government’s own invention of imagination. And the loquacious prime minister, with books and screens, according to whom governance is a kind of muddle between theatre and our public performance, has for days now been presenting the entire event as theatre. If, since the chief prosecutor total of the destruction of the free opposition remains a central figure in the institutional grotesque of the government and its companions, it is clear that his regime has now begun to turn into its own caricature. The media of the ruling party's court have pushed this issue so far that they insult the chief prosecutor, who initiated investigations into matters related to the opposition. Some journalists are even portraying his figure in an offensive and absurd manner. There are even voices saying that despite the failure of this scene, the government's moves have also produced a bad public result: the laughing figure of a tired chief prosecutor on a familiar television face. All this despite the government's effort to make it clear that everything is a game. This ridiculous government of a fabricated opposition and a kidnapped prosecutor subdues not only politics but also public tastes. Such a grotesque ruling orchestration is presented today, also bringing to the ordinary citizen an unparalleled revolt of power. Without forcefully clarifying the essence of this politics behind the media government, the situation of non-functioning institutions will also be at the level of political grinding and the citizen grinds after the media government.
