Prime Minister Meta has warned parliamentary speaker Gjinushi about the “surprise” in store for MPs whose names have been included in the anti-corruption files. Just a few hours before the meeting of the government’s Anti-Corruption Commission, Executive head Meta went to the doors of Parliament’s leadership. Yesterday, he held a one-on-one meeting with the Speaker of the Assembly, Skënder Gjinushi. Highly confidential sources close to the Prime Minister’s Office have confirmed that the purpose of this meeting was to report and gather information from the heads of the branches of power about politicians implicated in smuggling and corruption. The country’s number one government official, Meta, is said to have disclosed to parliamentary speaker Gjinushi the names of MPs found to be involved in smuggling and corruption. This was based on lists reportedly submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office by SH-ISH-I and the Ministry of Public Order. The head of SHISH, Fatos Klosi, and the Minister of Public Order, Spartak Poçi, members of the Government Anti-Corruption Commission, appear to have completed the task assigned some time ago by Prime Minister Meta: drawing up a complete list of politicians suspected of having links to smuggling and corruption networks. In a statement some time ago, the head of Public Order himself, Poçi, said that he was compiling such a list, which would also include politicians under suspicion. This apparently prompted the Prime Minister to approach the Speaker of the Assembly personally and lay the facts before him, so as to avoid later problems or disagreements between the Executive and the Legislature. Meanwhile, Gjinushi is said to have presented Meta with all the information obtained by the Parliamentary Commission for the Declaration of Politicians’ Assets, which is headed by the socialist Luan Shahollari. However, according to the latter, not all MPs have declared their assets. Shahollari stated that, besides several Democratic MPs, some Socialist MPs had also failed to comply with their obligation to declare their assets. “We will extend another invitation to the opposition,” which will remain open throughout the process, for their participation both at the technical-group level and at the monitoring level. This was the position announced yesterday by the government Anti-Corruption Commission at its latest meeting.
