Firmly grounded in the three pillars of its program—property, nation, law—the Republican Party marks twenty years of active politics, in keeping with the best national traditions and drawing on the pragmatism of Euro-American conservatism. As a consolidated political force, over these years the RP has sought to return power to citizens as a defender of the values of the individual. This has been made possible through a continuous, honest and persuasive campaign not only to restore property and re-establish justice, but also to establish fundamental human rights through institutional channels, making citizens aware that they should demand from the state what is rightfully theirs through democratic means and popular referendums. Albanian Republicans have been present at all the round tables on the national question, on institutions, the democratization of democracy, and the rule-of-law state. The Republican principle has been and remains: There can be no democracy without the rule of law, without consolidating property and returning it to its rightful owner, and without severe punishment of crime. It was the Republicans who strongly contested the abolition of the death penalty following the absurd decision of the Constitutional Court and its approval by the Presidency. The monstrous crimes that are shaking Albanian life every day are clear evidence of the validity of Republican views on this issue, and of the unconstitutional nature of the actions taken by those in power. The Republicans’ political action has confronted the caprices, incompetence, primitivism, nepotism, immorality and hypocrisy of the policies being pursued in Albania today. The RP has inspired the creation of a new opposition reality, to avert a crisis of confidence and deliver clear messages and governing alternatives. Every day it is playing a constructive role in delivering messages of unity for the Albanian opposition, to make it more effective in its battle against the corrupt left. The RP has also expanded its activity onto the international stage. Soon it will see itself joining international formations of right-wing and centre-right parties.
