Alimuçaj was not an owner but a tenant

Photo: Armando Babani Chief Prosecutor Arben RAKIPI Alimuçaj, was not an owner but a tenant Less money for VEFA creditors “Madona” was used in 1996 hand to hand by the former VEFA boss. But former[?] Alimuçaj presented himself as its owner. “In fact Alimuçaj is simply the tenant of the ship and not the owner,” stated the case prosecutor, Agim Bendo. During the court session, the representative of the VEFA bankruptcy administrator, Saimir Visha, stated that “Madona” is owned by the Italian company “Tunis Shipping S.A” based in Piraeus. It was even submitted in extradition[?] a document according to which the motor-fishing vessel[?] is only made available to and used by Alimuçaj. This means there may also have been fictitious sales. As appears from the bill of sale for “Madona”, it was used and sold while it was in Albania, but also after Alimuçaj’s departure. According to the sale document, this ship from Vlorëza reached the shores of Venice, which places it around 5 January 1997. Therefore the VEFA bankruptcy administrator, Zylfiu Cenalli, filed a lawsuit claiming the invalidity of the sale. Mr. Bendo accused the VEFA administrators and representatives of not having acted properly to protect creditors’ interests. According to him, if “Madona” were considered VEFA property, then it would be sold for the benefit of creditors. The case has become an important test to clarify how the assets of this financial group disappeared. Prosecutor’s Office: Fatos Klosi stole 54 thousand dollars

EDITORIAL By Senc ÇOBANI All roads lead to (in)justice Everywhere, the Albanian taxpayer, every four or five years, is forced to swallow the new soup of every government. The tricks of these atrocities have become the norm, the state-form of evil. Albania of the year 2000 is a state on the verge of the abyss. It is still governed by a caste of anti-republicans, capable of destroying the last column of “faith” in the homeland. Albania is turning into a field where the main players have no sense of responsibility. The opposition, excluded from the game, has the duty to raise its voice. This is also the reason why society expects to hear its word. If this word is missing, disappointment deepens. Until today Albanians know that governing has been done to place people in key positions, to control the vote, to exploit the administration and to seize every public resource. In this climate, justice is imagined as an empty term. The judicial system suffers from delays, lack of morality and the influence of daily politics. The prosecution, with files it opens and closes according to orders, has become the symbol of this injustice. Therefore the ordinary citizen feels unprotected. In a country where the law is weak and power is strong, every scandal becomes part of everyday life. This is the greatest tragedy of the Albanian transition. Citizens are tired of deception, broken promises and corruption. They want a state, they want justice, they want dignity. Without these, every reform is a façade. For this reason, the opposition and society must provide a joint response against this degradation.
