EDITORIAL When they united, few among their followers thought that a split would one day come. Accustomed to the “sweet” weight of the idea of unity, the nostalgic ones remembered the golden days of the “united fist”, blessing fate for not having let them die before seeing this day. And unity for the socialists is not merely a farce, as someone might naively think in the name of new unities, and so on ad infinitum. What matters, what determines alliances, breaks up unities and muddles the minds troubled by fear of laying their cards on the table, is not the deal itself, but its nature. Very soon, it breaks down where it began and destroys what created it. Today, few believe in idealism and in the unity built upon it. Where the deal breaks down (yes, not the truth) on which The Opposition listens and takes note, and also wishes: May God increase your anger! After all, every shout in one another’s faces by those who break deals; every self-exposed corruption file; every accusation with facts “within the group”; every bite and threat for “more”, does nothing but confirm its accusations and convince citizens even more that those who govern them, together with their supp- The nostalgic ones recall not letting Socialists is not merely a farce, as an opposition member—or even a skeptic, who by nature distrusts every phrase, indeed every word that comes from the mouths of politicians—might naively think. The prosecution makes its second sentencing recommendation A life sentence has been requested for Myrteza Çaushi, the former boss of the “Cole” neighborhood during the 1997 unrest. Yesterday, at the Court of First Instance in Vlora, the prosecutor in the “Causi” case, Përparim Bylvri, read the indictment against Myrteza Çaushi. According to the evidence presented by the prosecution, Zani Çaushi was found guilty of murdering Artur Shehaj’s brother in the summer of last year, as well as his maternal uncle, at the Shehaj family’s establishment at the port of Vlora. In this clash between the parties, the former boss of Vlora himself was wounded, and his right-hand man, Afrim Rami, nicknamed “Luçiano”, was killed. Page 5
