EDITORIAL By Adrian THANO The usual “governing” of an unusual day We have fallen into trouble — that’s where the last word ends. How beautiful democracy has been. When you can say and write to the government whatever you want. You can call it a “government” when it is not, “justice” when it does not give you justice, “order” when it is pressing down on you and cannot protect you, “state” when it has lost its balance again and again. And yet, we still ask and wonder: Where are we headed? Why so far? Why do we live with our necks turned toward the sky? Why do we look to the sky for those who turn earth into hell for us? And if we tell them “go away,” we know how to say that; but if they leave on their own, do we know what awaits us? Someone has asked what kind of government this is that lets 150,000 residents lose their heads. No need for irony, perhaps not even for humor. Those who were waiting and did not know where to go solve these questions with their hearts, not their minds. Without knowing whether that day water or fire would be more hidden. Worse still, they would even leave the burning of houses to their own hands. And if you flee, how do you defend it? To walk away, left with only the dialect expression “I am from home,” if these things they told us and those things they did to us? They ask and leave. From what flame? And if fire falls on your head? Six killed, 150 missing, and a bewildered crowd with children in their arms, there where the ordinary Kërrabëza is turned day and night? Look and you will understand. The signs are visible at every edge. On every such day, on every such “day of governance.” Who is paying attention? Who is listening? And who is leaving?
