EDITORIAL By Genci ÇOBANI While most of the residents of the Albanian capital were going about their usual business yesterday at midday, another group of them, those who like to get deeply involved in politics and its fan clubs, chose Skënderbej Square. “That’s their business! No one has the right to judge them harshly, as long as they are exercising a constitutional right, just as no one has the right to judge harshly those who feel fed up with rallies and do not attend them, because they think of them, tired of the disregard that their own indifference has aroused in these citizens, ‘offended’ by the fact that nowadays, day by day, fewer people turn their heads with curiosity or admiration when they pass through Tirana’s streets accompanied by numerous entourages and bodyguards (how nice it would be if they were afraid too, as in the past). The Albanian officials and politicians in general do not turn into the elements that precede every kind of propaganda on the eve of rallies in Tirana. The conclusion? More police than people in the streets, more armored vehicles than cars, more special forces than protesters... In the end, people leaving the rally hoarse and red-faced, having done nothing more than shout against the Government, as happened yesterday in Tirana. After all, the Government loses nothing! People—frightened people know how to keep quiet, know how to forget that they still have no electricity at home, know how to curse their political opponent while forgetting the real culprit and the real wrongdoing. has the right to judge them negatively, as it has no right to judge negatively those who feel obstructed by the rallies and do not attend them, because they think they have many other things to do.
