EDITORIAL So that justice is not handed over to power. To protest for a violated right, to demand at a rally what has been stolen from you, to gather and demand that the Government listen to you—in other words, to rise up against its deafening indifference. No one can tell you that a person, or those who act in these ways, who take such action to express what they think, even if their opinion is mistaken, have no right to do so. A right as fundamental and universal, as ancient as the very principles of… After all, it is a right granted to us by the Constitution, which, although it is the state’s, we are left to mock and wink at ironically, even though, at least in theory, we are obliged to respect it. But when the right is exceeded, when its framework is distorted under the weight of acts of physical violence, when emotionally motivated outbursts are not restrained by the iron discipline of fragile political logic (especially in Albania), when you rise up against a government that is worth protesting against—as is in fact the government currently ruling Albania—even though in most cases the practices and views of those who run it prevail, a protest is often met with indifference and irony. Ultimately, the aim is to take away its right to think that it has done everything well, that it is the best, that the end of all good lies with it and one need go no further, and so on. But when this logic is trampled in the fever of passion, then all you do is deprive yourself of that right and, unfortunately, hand it over to the power you oppose, which is just as bad.
