Another scandal over aid?
60 tons of expired medicines discovered
TIRANA — It turns out that in the warehouses of Tirana Hospital, where the aid medicines that came from Italy were stored, substantial quantities of expired medications were hidden. The news was made public yesterday, after an inspection carried out by state structures.
According to preliminary information, it is believed that most of these medicines should have been disposed of. The rest had been distributed to several hospitals and districts. All the expired medicines were found packed into several crates and hidden by warehouse cleaners. The inspection and preliminary checks found around 60 tons of expired medicines.
According to representatives of state structures, these are aid shipments that came from abroad and not medicines purchased with state funds. It is understood that some of them came from Italy as humanitarian aid. A full inventory of the entire quantity found is currently being carried out and the origin of each medicine is being verified.
Sources close to the hospital said the medicines had been kept in storage for a long time and had not been destroyed in time. The investigation is expected to clarify who was responsible and how they were brought into the hospital depots.

Berisha sounds the alarm: “Save Kosovo”
The spread of the massacre in Bosnia-Herzegovina must be prevented, he says.
TIRANA — Speaking on the occasion of a conference on human rights, former president Sali Berisha raised the alarm over Kosovo, calling for international intervention. According to him, if immediate measures are not taken, the violence of the Serbian regime could spread on an even more tragic scale.
Berisha appealed to the UN, the European Community and the USA to act without delay to prevent, in his view, the repetition of massacres similar to those in Bosnia-Herzegovina. He stressed that the Kosovo issue cannot be left forgotten and that the Albanian population there is facing a grave danger.
His statement was made as part of a public event in Tirana, attended by representatives of human rights organizations and political figures.

Writes Nexhmije Hoxha:
“In prison, but among women”
TIRANA — Nexhmije Hoxha sent a long letter from prison with requests and clarifications regarding the conditions of serving her sentence. In the letter, she asks not to be kept in isolation and to be placed in an environment with female inmates, claiming that the current conditions do not comply with humane treatment standards.
She says that her state of health requires special attention and that she is willing to respect the institution’s rules, but not to remain in conditions that, in her view, further worsen her situation. The Ministry of Public Order has not yet issued an official comment on the content of the letter.
The issue has aroused great public interest because of her well-known political figure and the history tied to the communist period.
Now all Albanians, a non-violent revolution
Fashion and relations with families are beginning to change
TIRANA — The social phenomenon of recent years, emigration and the major change in lifestyles, according to sociologists, is bringing a clear transformation in family behavior and social relations.
In the cities, a more open behavior between generations is being observed, while young people are clearly influencing the way people dress, the use of free time, and relations with parents. On the other hand, families are facing new tensions as a result of emigration, poverty, and the changing role of women.
Researchers note that the traditional model has not disappeared, but is adapting. A large part of Albanian society is moving from a closed mentality to a more open culture, although this process remains uneven and often conflictual.
