Ministry of Labour: a Democratic Party MP appointed to lead it
Engjëll Dakli takes the post
Ministry of Labour:
a Democratic Party MP
appointed to lead it
Seat of Government
TIRANA — The round of changes in the Meksi cabinet came to an end on Friday. In a ceremony organized on Friday in the premises of the Ministry of Labour, the new Minister of Labour, Emigration, Social Welfare and Political Persecuted Persons was introduced. He is the Democratic Party MP Engjëll Dakli. The new minister was introduced on behalf of the ministry by Deputy Prime Minister Dashamir Shehi himself — Dakli's predecessor in this post. Dakli is an engineer by profession and worked for a long time in the former Metallurgical Combine of his hometown, Elbasan.
With Dakli's appointment to the new post — the presidential decree was made public on Saturday — the cycle of government changes fixed forty days earlier is closed. This ministry had initially been intended for the Republicans, but their exit from the governing coalition caused the appointment of the Minister of Labour to be postponed for nearly two weeks.
Super-suspect arrested: the secret service was also investigating
Captured in Italy after a long manhunt
Super-suspect arrested:
the secret service was also investigating
The young man is suspected of murder, drug trafficking and trafficking in strategic materials
DURRES — Arrest warrants in Albania and Italy were issued in his name. Since June 1992, almost all European police forces had known his identity; since then an international arrest warrant had been issued for a murder committed in Durrës, for which he is accused. Now he has fallen into the hands of the Italian Police, which had been searching for him for months in cooperation with SISMI, the Italian secret service, which only rarely appears in cases of ordinary crime. Saimir Hoxha, 25, was arrested on Friday in Lecco, a locality in northern Italy. The Italian Court of Appeal will now decide on his extradition to Albania, at least that was announced during a press conference held in Lecce? for Lançarë of Lecco.
Hoxha's story begins in April 1991, when he crossed the Adriatic as an illegal migrant, and then entered a path that would make him "famous" among European investigators. From Italy he later moved to Switzerland, from where — caught without documents — he was sent back to his homeland. He then returned to Italy — in the area between Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy — from where he apparently frequently returned to his homeland.
Hoxha is burdened by numerous charges — perhaps the greatest ever brought against an Albanian arrested in Italy — ranging from possible links with international traffickers in drugs and strategic materials to accusations of murdering a compatriot in a still unspecified locality in northern Italy. Since June '93, the Albanian authorities, in cooperation with Interpol, had issued an international arrest warrant. This warrant was issued for a murder committed in Durrës and the victim was to be a young girl.
The news of Haxhia's arrest made an impression because of a special element of his story: SISMI, one of the Italian secret services, whose investigations are an extremely reserved field, had also investigated him. It was SISMI that gave the police the elements needed to carry out the arrest. Italian news agencies described Haxhia as "a subject very close to the use of firearms and in obvious possession of counterfeit money, very dangerous". At the press conference at the Lecco Police Headquarters, investigators stated that Haxhia was suspected by them as "a person very close to the circles of the former Sigurimi". A hypothesis that perhaps will not receive positive confirmation, given Haxhia's young age. (s. p.)

Police blitz live on TV
TIRANA — The first police "show" in Albania carried out in front of television cameras and broadcast live on TV has taken place. Everything happened between the current most-watched show in Albania — "A journalist's Sunday newspaper" — and last Saturday. Even though the star of the show could not catch anything. Using this TV screen spectacle on Saturday, the invited "magical" response to Tirana Police Commissariat No. 2, Mida speculators, suddenly, someone among the noisy spectators — who was watching the show from the Commissariat television — noticed a suspicious person. A few minutes later the camera turned back to him, perhaps to finally reach the conclusion that it was precisely the person who had been sought for a long time: after two months of searches by the Police, journalist A.D. — who had possessed 4 kishtë used a student whom we are looking for — was seen by the TV camera. Among the many other spectators and the whole crowd. According to Police sources, their police commissariat started its "special" operation. Constantly in front of the television screen arose the suspicion that directly explained what the others watching the show had started to suspect. Only a few minutes later they were seen among the spectators as tied to one of the shops they had been looking for. From the TV screen of Commissariat No. 2 they also learned that the operation ended successfully. But only they, because many others could not understand why the speaker "readable" tonight said that a person had been arrested.

Explosion on board a Boeing aircraft
YESTERDAY IN THE WORLD
The toll of an explosion on board a Boeing 747 aircraft of "Philippine Airlines", which was bound for Tokyo, is 10 injured. The explosion created a tear in the aircraft cabin and caused air to be vented from the cabin, but according to the pilots' report, it did not affect the aircraft's flying capability and an emergency landing was therefore made at Naha airport, on the island of Okinawa in Japan.
Elbasan, thieves attack a television shop
Police are looking for the perpetrators
ELBASAN — Television sets have become the prey of robbers. Taking advantage of the darkness of night, a group of thieves knocked down the wall of a TV sales and repair shop and robbed at least thirteen sets from the owner. "Although we still do not know exactly what has not been stolen — says a passer-by from the shop — all the brands have been taken; 3,500 dollars have been put their hands on from every place."
A few days earlier — again in the darkness of night — several other shops had become the prey of groups of masked men. The owner of at least one of the robbed shops, and the complaint filed with which again? because their premises are located near the Savings Bank 4 and the thefts, linked to the police forces, is 1 reinforced. But their hopes have not been confirmed and now they have to think about how they will repay the damages to the customers.

Toy pistol causes panic among customers
Two teenagers threaten
DURRES — Terrorism and "war" play caused an alarm in the city center for several minutes. Two young men, G.T., 17, and E.S., 16, suddenly entered a venue in the center of Durrës. It was the real act of terrorists that forced customers to lie on the ground. But something was missing. The terrifying weapon with which the two young men were threatening people was a signal pistol, the kind used to announce the start of races. In any case, the police, alerted urgently, set off in pursuit of the "terrorists" and managed to stop them after a short time. And it is still not clear what had forced the two young men to undertake the dangerous game. A kind of revenge is also suspected, because some time earlier they had had a quarrel with the owner of the "attacked" venue.

Company sues the police
Vlore
— The court case has just opened in which the defendant is Vilson Hoxhari, head of the financial police branch of Vlora, and the plaintiff is Piro Kodra, president of the company "Hekla" which operates in private policing. The conflict between the two parties had arisen after a fine imposed by the financial police branch on the company in question. But the latter responded by denying the accusations made against it for failure to pay tax obligations, as well as by filing a complaint with the judicial authorities. Meanwhile, the prosecution authorities have taken Haxhiraj into criminal responsibility and even the penalty measure for not clarifying it.

Russian tanks invade Chechnya
Severe violence against separatists
Operation ordered by Yeltsin. People are already talking about the first victims
MOSCOW — On Friday, armoured troops began the invasion of Chechnya, with the aim of crushing the uprising of the small Caucasian republic, which broke away from Russia three years earlier by declaring independence. "We will finish it," Chechen leader Dzhokhar Dudayev immediately declared afterward, the chief target of the revolt against Russia. According to him, Moscow is to blame for the possible outbreak of a bloody clash. Dudayev had been condemned by the Red Army.
The Russians do not speak of an invasion, since Chechnya, with about 1 million inhabitants, mostly Muslims, is territory of the Federation. The operation began on the basis of a decree by President Boris Yeltsin, who two days earlier had ordered the government to use every means to restore order in the Caucasus.
Official sources have not yet given any news about the clashes, but the president of Ingushetia, who had informally condemned two years earlier the war caused by Chechnya, spoke on television about the first victims.
Columns of armored vehicles, numbering in the hundreds and accompanied by thousands of Russian soldiers and police, set off from North Ossetia, Ingushetia and Dagestan, the three border areas of Chechnya with Russia. The Kizlyar area, the southern one, is in Georgia.
