Brozi-Dervishi dispute: both sides file complaints
The quarrel at the Prosecutor's Office reaches the investigators
The criminal case will be examined by a military prosecutor
TIRANE — The incident that took place last Thursday at the General Prosecutor's Office has now reached the Tirane Investigations Office. And it will be a military prosecutor who will examine the complaints filed by both sides involved in this conflict — the driver of the escort of the President of the Court of Cassation on one side and the driver of the escort of the Deputy General Prosecutor on the other — which on Monday raised suspicions about the considerable tension even among the senior members of the Albanian justice bodies: Xhelal Brozi and Fatos Dervishi.
According to Brozi, the President of the Cassation, the incident was not simply an ordinary dispute between escorts but an attack on his person, an attack that "was preceded by various provocative actions earlier as well". For this reason, on Saturday during a press conference he strongly accused not only the Deputy General Prosecutor Dervishi but also the Minister of Public Order Musaraj. Brozi did not stop at harsh and numerous criticisms; at the same time he also demanded their resignation from the posts they hold: "If Dervishi and Musaraj resign — declared the President of the Cassation — I myself will try to persuade my driver to withdraw the complaint that was filed."
Brozi's accusations have continued to go unanswered by the other side. Until yesterday morning Dervishi had not made any statement regarding the incident, while Musaraj left on Sunday for Italy for an official meeting.

Destructive hunting: fishermen protest
SHKODER — Fishermen from Shkodër are protesting against illegal hunting that is wiping out the fauna of Lake Shkodër.
From 4,000 quintals, the average amount of fish they caught has fallen to 300 quintals. The cause is ten times lower. The main cause is fish trafficking, accompanied by the barbaric hunting being carried out with explosives or various poisons.
"More than 100 fishermen have raised their voices in protest against this inexplicable phenomenon and against the passivity shown by the local authorities. Last year, the financial police had also reacted against the illegal 'fishermen', but it is still not known why this matter was not pursued to the end. The damage concerns more than 1,000 thousand fish, and around twenty villages from Malësia e Madhe are destroying the wealth of the Lake with dynamite or poisons without anyone disturbing the lawfulness."

4 people disappear: still no trace
Kavajë, they had gone out to shop
KAVAJE — Four people have mysteriously disappeared and the law-enforcement forces are still unable to provide any explanation.
It concerns a man, two women and a child from the village of Rrak in the district of Kavajë.
It had been an ordinary day when the group of people now missing — they belonged to different relatives' families — went shopping in the city of Kavajë in order to buy some items for use. But they never returned. Several weeks have passed since they went in and out of the shop where they had gone shopping — no signal has been obtained from them, nor has any trace of their mysterious route been discovered. This is an event that, besides causing concern in the family, has also fueled rumors and fantasy. There are voices speaking of a possible clandestine departure toward the shores of Italy.

Municipality: 'At the maternity ward, mothers with documents'
Newborns abandoned
In Berat, five cases are verified
BERAT — "No mother should be accepted without identity documents". This is the recommendation coming from the Municipality of Berat, after the verification of 5 cases of babies being abandoned by their mothers at the city's maternity hospital.
In January, five unmarried mothers were identified in this center; as soon as they gave birth, they would leave and abandon their child in the wards of the maternity hospital. The victims, according to sources close to this institution, were mothers using false names. And it was the nurses who opposed the initial registration of the baby in order to help identify the mother. They are also the ones who gave the child a name and completed the documentation by entering invented names of the parents whom the baby may never know. This is why, as they are urged to solve this problem, the municipality replies that only order can ensure a solution. And the proposal: no mother should be admitted to the maternity home without proper identity documents.

Bosnia, desperate appeal to NATO
An armored Bosnian train
BEOGRAD — Bosnia's blue helmets have been placed on the highest state of alert and the withdrawal from Croatia is also being requested. This shows the high tension that reigns not only in Bosnia but throughout the former Yugoslavia, where especially in Croatia the conflict risks expanding on a very large scale.
The most dramatic situation is that of the Bihac area, now entirely at war. Here too the UN's efforts to withdraw humanitarian aid staff as quickly as possible from the enclave failed: this clearly shows the fear of a worsening situation.
Throughout the day, NATO punitive strikes against the Serbs were awaited, following requests by the Muslim authorities, who also denounced unauthorized flights. The UN Security Council has given permission for NATO aircraft to intervene in Croatian skies as well, thus also with the possibility of striking the Serbian separatists of Croatia.
