Investigated Maternity Hospital: inquiry begins
The disappearance of the baby. Staff questioned
Yesterday the Tirana Prosecutor's Office opened the criminal case. The first testimonies are being collected
TIRANA - Investigations are intensifying into the scandal at the Tirana Maternity Hospital. Yesterday at 1:00 p.m. the Prosecutor's Office opened the criminal case, while in the early hours of the same day no defendant had been identified. It all refers to the episode of 14 October, when a young mother had her newborn baby disappeared on the false pretext that the child had been born dead. The first testimonies were taken yesterday by the investigators, specifically from the Director of the Tirana Maternity Hospital, Zhani Tresa, his deputy - during the time Tresa had been absent - as well as the young mother's brother and her aunt. By late yesterday evening, after the arrest, while the only measure in force was the investigation, in addition to the police, those designated were the Maternity Hospital doctor Bashkim Cenomeri, Shkëlqim Palla, four midwives, a cleaner and an information clerk. The Tirana Prosecutor's Office will question at least those involved from 14 October '95. Everyone used the board Director Tresa, the man who only a day earlier had denounced the scandal and had officially submitted the complaint to the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic.

A boy from Peshkopi, the peacekeeper in Bosnia
HISTORY
A boy from
Peshkopi
the peacekeeper
in Bosnia
PESHKOPI - There is also a boy from the Peshkopi district in Bosnia. Twenty young men and people from European states and from the volunteer republics in the battle of Bosnia have also come down, one of them from Peshkopi. His name is Fatmir Salihu and he is 27 years old. His story is one of the rarest while the war is taking on broader dimensions. Fatmiri was involved in a battle unknown to the boy from Peshkopi. In 1991 Fatmir illegally crossed the border into Greece. There he had to struggle, like many of his compatriots. In those difficult times, he was out of work for two years, but with iron will he also continued intensively with a private special karate course. But that course was later stopped on a winter day because this kind of thing would very soon be needed in the most terrible war of the century for the Balkans, becoming the first Albanian to officially take active part in the Bosnian war.
By Greola Esmul laku
After some time in Greece, the young man approached a Frenchman named Simon. Very soon he would take the path of emigration, this time with the help of a Serb illegally, but this time toward the coasts of Puglia. But Italy did not quite "satisfy" the Albanian boy either. From there he set off for French soil. It was almost at the same time that the peace soldiers were being mobilized toward the flames of Bosnia. Here, precisely in Paris, after a few days in the well-known places of the French capital, he did not waste time and headed to the Paris army recruitment center. And not long after passing the difficult admission tests and exams, he put on military clothes and placed the blue beret of the angels of peace on his head. A period later in Rwanda, and two years in Bosnia. While the individual hardships and the discomforts of the military duty are described, Festim is told not to reveal anything about the coordinates of the place where he is - he must regularly call his family, which asks anxiously about the boy in exile, the wishes that once opened his life, he bitterly has described the most unbelievable things. And this fear will last another year. That is how long the contract is that Festimi signed and bought with the military masonry of the United Nations in Paris, and on the wall of his French life.

Godo against Rugova:
"No Kosovo under the UN"
TIRANA - Godo against Rugova's statement. "President Rugova's formulation seems to me an unfortunate one," says the PR leader. Only a short time ago, Ibrahim Rugova had spoken of a "Kosovo under the civilian administration of the United Nations Organization." Godo says he is surprised and says that Kosovo has the right to demand independence without wavering. Rugova's statement, the republican leader argues, would lead to "colonial states or those separated from colonization".

RTSH should
make cuts
TIRANA - Full understanding between the main leaders of Albanian Radio and Television and its independent workers' union regarding the much-discussed issue of cuts. Yesterday at the hotel, the two sides' twelve representatives signed a short document marking the first 95. "Professionalism and aspects" these representatives, the main leaders of RTSH. Also with the criterion of cuts. But the most difficult task seems to belong to the heads of departments. They will be the ones to propose the names of the staff to be cut. The first of them will have to leave the institution's job very soon
