Storm at Cassation: 11 dismissed

The first moves in the Albanian high court after the chief’s departure Storm at Cassation: 11 dismissed Yesterday the order from Frashëri was communicated Among the reasons: “illegal appointments” during Brozi’s time, as well as the elimination of positions TIRANA- Storm at Cassation. Since yesterday, 11 employees will no longer be at the Albanian supreme court, their dismissal carried out under an order from the Minister of Justice, Hektor Frashëri. It was only an envelope for each one, which this time communicated the immediate dismissal from work, as well as the sealed inventory of their offices. Among these employees removed for various reasons and motives are the former secretary and former driver of Brozi, three jurists from the Legality sector, an employee responsible for maintaining the internal premises of Cassation, the head of Finance, and even the press spokesman. The mass dismissals—which were learned at Cassation yesterday minute by minute and hour by hour—ended together with office hours, while the waiting room was also filled with various hypotheses. Ermenji: “I worked for the good of the Fatherland”

After the denunciation made by the Veterans Ermenji: “I worked for the good of the Fatherland” The Balli leader: “Communist accusations” TIRANA - With harsh accusations against communism and convinced that he acted to prevent Albania’s partition by the Slavic-Greek neighbors, Abaz Ermenji responds to the denunciation made against him by the Organization of War Veterans, only a few weeks after his final return to the homeland. For Ermenji, the communists’ entire story with its support from the time of exile is proving to be even more distorted [?]. Below, the break with the Yugoslavs and up to the present day. The Balli leader himself admits to being a member of the “Free Albania Committee,” but this committee has for years taken part in the plan for the country’s partition that the neighbors had prepared. Cooperation with the PD, according to Ermenji, “will be realized only if it finds common ground with Balli, after 2-3 years when the circumstances are favorable and it is not the one that created communism.” On page 3 Balli leader, Abaz Ermenji

Public RTV project: dispute begins between PS and PD

Clash in the Parliamentary Commission Public RTV project: dispute begins between PS and PD TIRANA- As soon as the new draft law on public and private radio and television became known, controversy erupted. One of the four clashes within the Commission for the Media was the reduction of the share of voices of the PD and the Socialist side. The way in which the main leaders of public radio and television will be chosen has also caused the harshest criticism from the Socialist wing. The project itself provides for the election of the Chairman of the National Radio and Television Committee by Parliament from two candidates proposed by the President himself. On page 3 RTVSH

“I came to Albania for an interfaith committee”

INTERVIEW / Idriz Basha speaks “I came to Albania for an interfaith committee” “For me, a political career is too late” TIRANA- “Islamism among part of the Albanians has been an accident of history. The man speaking is Idriz Basha, member of the World Association of the Periodical Press and member of the International Federation of Journalists. He has been back in Albania for about a month after being forced to emigrate to Belgium at the age of 10. He speaks about his ideas on the existence of the role of the Muslim, Orthodox and Catholic faiths; he is Muslim, but explains the reasons, as a Christian. His mission after arriving in Albania will be to create the Albanian interfaith Committee. Basha says he is ready, but he has mentioned that he must be such. He also speaks about his regular correspondence with French President Jacques Chirac. On page 3 Idriz Basha

Appeal to the millionaire: “Return to the Himarë that gave you life...”

Vlorë, Prefecture sends letter to Duni of Albanian origin Appeal to the millionaire: “Return to the Himarë that gave you life...” VLORË- “Rich man, do not forget your place, from which you came poor...”. This is the message of the appeal that the Prefecture of Vlorë has sent to a multimillionaire of Himarë origin, asking him to return to his birthplace in Dhërmi, this time for a medical visit. The invitation, which has also been well received by the municipal leaders, is expected to bring the powerful businessman to his hometown as well, in order to discuss serious investment plans in Vlorë and Himarë. But who is Thoma Duni? A well-known artist before the arrival of communism in 1944, he sought another life in the West. Later he made a name for himself in Brussels and became deeply involved in trade. Duni chose his destination country and within a short time built factories and combines, monopolizing the capital of Zaire, Kinshasa. Later his target once again became Brussels, but with a different goal. Soon in the Belgian capital Thoma Duni set up business centers. The Albanian businessman gained fame and money. But he never forgot his homeland. A milestone episode was an event in the port of Piraeus: an Albanian transoceanic ship found itself in a difficult situation, the cargo had expired and the Albanian owners of the ship had to pay a huge amount of money. Fortune smiled on them: Thoma Duni bought all the expired goods, saving the Albanian crew from a pointless and costly entanglement. But now the time has come for him to return and think seriously about his birthplace. At least this is what a prefect and the mayor of “Return to Himarë” think. Indeed, he became rich, but Himarë, which gave him life, gave him the opportunity. Stavri Marko

What’s happening to journalists

What’s happening to journalists Fatos Baxhaku TIRANA - A deafening crisis and the peace of a family has been deeply shaken. People’s lives have been in danger. This is not about scenes from some film, the kind commonly shown on the TV screen; it was a real event and it concerns the second attack carried out within a few days against a journalist. This time Sami Selishta, KTSH correspondent for Peshkopi, was the target of the attackers, who remain unidentified despite the immediate mobilization of the order-enforcement authorities. A few days earlier, under almost the same circumstances, it had been Nazif Tosi, correspondent of “Koha Jonë”, only fate had ensured that Lesti’s family came out unharmed from that bad night. What’s happening to journalists? The answer to this question, whatever it may be, can be drawn from the flames of risk. Are they merely raw material for their own suppression in society? Information is of fundamental importance, the press line is among the most protected social freedoms, everyone has the right to say freely what they think, everyone is close to one another and we often hear our heads, and so much human life has changed compared with a few years ago that it has been lightning-like. It is enough to leaf through the pages of the newspapers people read every morning, only now it seems that it has made everything of the same human ugliness, so that for [minor reasons?] it can exert pressure on those who work every day to inform others. For them it is good that the two bad incidents involving our colleagues ended well. But that does not mean we should stay silent. It could happen, and it could happen otherwise too, and then it will truly be too late. On page 3
