The Holy See

The Great Cross to the Albanian ambassador TIRANE - The Vatican honors Albanians. The Grand Cross of the Order of St. Gregory the Great has been awarded to the Albanian ambassador to the Holy See, Veli Papa Gjon Pali II, who appreciated the representation of Christians from all of Albania during the Holy Year, with one of the highest honors awarded so far. The symbolic Cross of St. Gregory. “An important contribution by Ambassador Kamis during his two years in office.” This is how the unfailing monsignors, the cardinals of the Holy See, officially expressed themselves. All of Pope John Paul II’s high regard was conveyed to Vili Kami through the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Sodano, who stated that “The Holy Father recognizes and values what the country across the Adriatic has done in advancing relations between Catholics and the Holy See.” The Grand Cross is the decoration given to the Albanian ambassador at the end of his term to show that all Albanian developments have been followed with interest. After the restoration of religion and faith, the Vatican’s relationship with Christians appears to have now taken on bright [?] dimensions.

Prosecutor’s Office against the Court

“It gives lenient rulings to detainees” Chairman Gjoni: "This shows there is no compromise" TIRANE - The Prosecutor’s Office against the Tirana Court. A special report complains about the judges over the decisions they issue, often considering the preventive measures against the accused too lenient. According to the prosecutors, this clash involves legal violations. Meanwhile, the court, gathered yesterday in an expanded meeting, viewed the Prosecutor’s Office complaints from a different angle. “These show that there is no compromise between the two sides,” replied the chairman of the Tirana Court, Qazim Gjoni, “and they confirm the independence of the legal debate” On page 5 Tirana Prosecutor’s Office

He was welding the tanker when he died from fuel vapors

Shkodër, witness: “The pieces fell close to me” SHKODER - To die while working. Although after a long time, the phenomenon of losing one’s life at work has reappeared, taking the life of a forty-year-old man who was welding on a heavy vehicle. But so far, no action to open the case has been taken by the competent authorities. The tanker truck was the victim. This fate was reserved for a man from Shkodër. It was precisely the welder Tome Toma, who lost his life while doing his daily work. The incident happened on Wednesday around noon, when powerful blasts near the railway station spread fear and panic among the people. The 40-year-old Toma had gone under the tanker truck to weld something there that had broken. On page 3

The “Cantona” phenomenon in Albania too

FOOTBALL TIRANE - The “Cantona” case has moved to “Qemal Stafa”, but this time on a smaller scale. A local striker has behaved badly in the same way seen elsewhere in the world. Vito, precisely at the moment when he had scored, but after carrying out the action for another goal, struck a child in front of the stands behind the goal. However, Vito’s case was not the only one in this match - it did not at all take away from the beauty of the game played by the Olimpik players. The guests this time, besides an uninspired performance, also left a rather unappealing taste in the audience, unlike the Vlora side. From yesterday’s match in Tirana On page 5

“Anti-genocide is good for democracy in Albania”

POLL More than four thousand people surveyed TIRANE - “Most Albanians accept that genocide was committed in their country and agree with the application of the Anti-Genocide Law,” a step that serves to strengthen Albanian democracy; this is the clear result of a survey conducted on more than 4,000 people from across the country. The study was carried out and processed by a team from the Applied Statistics-Mathematics-Informatics Department of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tirana. Survey findings: to the question of whether there was genocide during the communist dictatorship, 80 percent of those questioned said yes and 20 percent said no. As for the question of whether the law for punishing genocide should be applied, 78 percent answered positively; only 12 percent of those questioned did not believe there had been genocide and therefore preferred to answer no, 8 percent were undecided between the two answers and the rest abstained. Does it condemn genocide? That was the second question in the survey. To this question, 78 percent answered yes, 10 percent no, and the rest abstained. Sixty-five percent of all those questioned agree with the law on genocide, while 16 percent are against it. The last question - Does the law on genocide do good for democracy in Albania? - produced the following results: 66 percent yes, 22 percent no, and 12 percent abstentions. Only a small difference was observed between villagers and city dwellers in their stance on the law: in the countryside, 64 percent agree with genocide, while in the city the percentage is somewhat higher: 66 percent of urban respondents agree with anti-genocide. Broken down by age, the survey produced the following answers: urban anti-genocide among 18-24-year-olds, 66 percent yes, 12 percent no and 22 percent abstentions; among 25-40-year-olds, 64 percent yes, 21 percent no, 15 percent abstentions. Over 41-55 years, 57 percent yes, 19 percent no and 14 percent abstained, while over 55 years, 61 percent yes, 23 percent no and 16 percent abstentions. b.r.
