Files, whose opening begins today
About 50 speeches and more than five hours on the law for “officials”
Files, whose opening begins today
Approval last night: first journalists and the administration
PD: “This law is necessary because it will finally cleanse Albanian political life. It is also known as the law on the closing of files, which is why we regard it as an extremely humane and human law”
PS: “The law is a continuation of ‘Genocidi’ and both together are unconstitutional because only the courts can deprive certain individuals of the right to take part in elections”

Five executed men found in a mass grave
The mass grave in Mniku
SKODER - They had been buried for fifty years and had become one with the bare earth. They were human bones, yet generations of children had played ball over them, as if to believe that beneath the courtyard of the house lay those who had once been the remains of the bodies of five men executed in 1945.
They were found by the elderly and villagers from the villages of Hoxhërdh, Shtoj i vjetër and Grudëmi. Sadik Lekaj, who had been commander, Bektafi Ismaili, who had been commander of the gendarmerie post, and Adem Tafa — these are the names of two of the men who that June day stood among those condemned to execution. What had officially been said at the time was “collaboration with the enemies” and committed crimes. It was testified to by Reshit Rusi and Rifat Munjani who were killed on 2 February 1944.” One thing escaped them: a few gunshots and the lifeless bodies of the unfortunate men in an unmarked pit only 200 meters from the place where later the Vasli Shanto square was created[sic].
They had remained for 50 consecutive years in the schoolyard where children played all the time, and today their bones are still exposed, following the search that has been made known in cooperation with the association of the persecuted of Shkodra.

The 1991 coup: documents missing
The meeting protocol is missing from the archives
Not even the list of members of the National Salvation Committee can be found
For the prosecutors, another aspect has emerged: according to sources in the investigation, several highly important documents have been found to be missing, and these could finally shed light on two key issues. In the archives of the Officers’ school, the protocol of the several-hour meeting between representatives of the then Government, the newly created Presidential Council and the political parties is missing. In the school archives, the list of “officials” on the composition of the National Salvation Committee is also missing — or has been removed — the final and most concrete act of the military “super-coup” of February 1991, just 24 hours after the dictator’s statue was toppled in Skanderbeg Square.

PS against the rich
“Heavier taxes”
TIRANË - The Socialists “against” the rich. “PS will tax large merchants more heavily.” That is the essence of the discussion by MP Anastas Angjeli at the PS meeting on the financial policy that the party will pursue if it takes power. What about foreign debt? According to Angjeli, “it has not been fully repaid.” This is another issue about which the Socialist MP spoke at length and proposed several alternatives for solving it. The new policy on the budget and pensions, but also on social care, form the restructuring of a banking system.

Rare, but true
MOSCOW - Hard days for the pair of tigers, which is currently under Russian care. The management of the Nizhni Novgorod zoo - 500 kilometres east of Moscow - has said it will set the two tigers free if the local authorities do not provide, as they promised, the money needed to feed the two animals.
At the time of the zoo’s inauguration — not long ago — it had been planned that the income from ticket sales would be used to feed the two tigers. But in winter, with the severe Moscow cold, the zoo was closed and the municipal administration was irresponsible in failing to pay for the purchase of meat for the tigers.
Apparently the promise has not been kept, and this, together with the tigers’ hunger, has led to the management’s protest.
