“Clandestines? Hard to block”
Meksi explains the reasons: “We can only restrain them”
The Prime Minister:
“In the whole country, 202 vessels used for illegal activities have been blocked. 17 cases of kidnapping have been reported, of which only 10 percent have a legal basis. 340 cases involving cannabis [?] and 43 kilograms of drugs have been seized.”
Çeliku, “prompted by recent concerns, as many innocent victims have appeared at our borders. But most importantly, the governments of neighboring countries are also speaking about the Albanian side’s inability to stop such phenomena”

It was a scheduled meeting that took important decisions regarding the “black” week of Albanian football, when fists and kicks had taken the place of the game with the round ball.

Car theft: the network uncovered
Car theft:
network
uncovered
TIRANE - The largest car-thief network in Albania has been uncovered. A swift operation by the capital’s police has made it possible to dismantle an organized group of car thieves as well as the clients themselves, who were the main buyers of the stolen vehicles. All of them yesterday ended up in the cells of Police Station No. 2 in Tirana and had the same trail. When was their network discovered? There are 8 young people, the main figures in the “industry” of stolen cars. All of them, between 18 and 22 years old, had been operating for some time, managing to steal a very large number of vehicles. Some of them are from the capital and the police station has stated that the Ministry of the Interior has also made their names known: Ervin Shahini, Naim Kurti, Altin Mancaku, Jo-nuz Ajmi and Gertian Kulla.

TIRANE - “Albanians look toward the West and not toward the East.” Sali Berisha, the Albanian President, spoke yesterday for more than half an hour on Bavarian television, answering the question of how he foresees the upcoming elections in his country. For Berisha, “the path with the East was tried by Albanians for 50 years in a tragic way.”

Verification for the “shadow government”
PS controls
its own commissions
TIRANE - PS is moving toward announcing its electoral program. A meeting today of the largest opposition party and, recently, an electoral program on the basis of which the Albanian socialists will try to triumph over these political parties. Political alternatives, the economy, the agricultural problem, as well as many other program points of theirs, will be the PS’s “Achilles’ heel,” and it will try to present them and then implement them with a kind of political fanaticism.

Money changers: they find 1 million and hand it over
Money changers:
they find
1 million
a nd hand it over
TIRANE - They had been ready to make the report, but were interrupted by people from a media [?] and the despair of losing a million drachmas in an envelope was too much for C. T. and O. T., who quickly thought that honesty no longer exists.
Only ten days earlier they had met two money changers A. C. and S. Gj. to make the illegal exchange of drachmas. During the usual procedures, the money changers had noticed that one of them had the jacket needed for the exchange, so they returned the bundles of drachmas to this couple, asking them to wait until their companions had gathered the amount in lek. The long wait made the spouses lose patience and leave without meeting the money changers again. Only in the evening did they notice that 1 million drachmas was missing from the bag. Suspicion immediately fell on the two money changers and they too, disheartened and with little hope, made the report. But fortunately for the honest spouses, there are two money changers stationed at the exchange point, a well-known place that caught the eye of the two of them as a particularly suspicious million-strong bundle. They had kept the money without paying? of the next round [?] presented to the “injured parties,” who after the report had nothing left to do but thank the honest money changers.
Blood on the border with Macedonia: yesterday an Albanian was wounded
He was waiting to complete customs formalities
TIRANE - Blood again at the border with Macedonia. This time it is not about a clandestine migrant but about an Albanian who had regularly asked to enter Macedonian territory through the Tushemisht border crossing. Misto Mitri was wounded after completing all the customs formalities on the Albanian side and while waiting to cross to the neighboring country. The bloodied Mitri immediately received first medical aid from the Albanian border police, while investigations were launched immediately.
Yesterday a Commission was set up to clarify the incident, which held a meeting at 15:30 with the Macedonian side, in the presence of experts. A meeting which ended without any concrete result. The Macedonians denied responsibility for the event, not supporting it with facts and material evidence. Both sides contradicted each other and everything was postponed to a later date, when the confrontation will this time be based on the evidence that will be placed on the negotiating table.

TIRANE - It rose last night at the end of the opening of Fest ’95 at the Palace of Congresses.
