DURRËS - “That evening was calm. My husband had just brought me a teddy bear for the little one. He was playing. Ismail was lying down. The wounded man entered the house with a machine gun in his hand...” Ismail’s family members are trying to repeat what happened two nights earlier in Durrës. “He came in like a madman. He grabbed me by the hands and pointed the automatic weapon at me and the child. Ismail got up from the bed and snatched it away by force. Then the shots rang out.” This is the first testimony of Ismail’s young wife. She insists that the incident happened in self-defense. Neighborhood residents say that the American soldier had entered the house seeking shelter, but armed and in a confused state. According to the family, Ismail had no intention of killing him, but of removing the danger from the house. His relatives further say that after the incident he did not flee, but waited for the police. The case has caused a great deal of reaction in the city.
Ismail’s relatives declare that he was a calm and hardworking man. They claim that the family is in difficulty and that his wife has been left alone with the child. Different versions are circulating in the neighborhood about how the marine arrived at the house. Some say he was asking for help, others that he was drunk. The family is asking for justice and a full investigation into the incident.

Public RTV “Issue”? The commission wants clarification
It asks the state for the new budget
TIRANA - Even the discussion of the first budget for Albanian private TV “Shijak”, in the middle of last week, moved from the Albanian Parliament to TV? The parliamentary Commission on Production, Trade and Environment. The chairman of this commission, Ylli Bufi, said that just as for state RTV, so too for private TV “Shijak” there should be a separate line in the state budget. “They are not state-owned, but national,” said PD deputy Vaso Meniko, asking that explanations be given also for separate budget items for Albanian private TV. According to him, even the designation “public TV” or “Albanian TV” did not hold up. Other deputies requested that the issue of additional RTSH be clarified in parliament in a special session. Some deputies asked whether TV “Shijak” would have the right to have a studio in Tirana. In this way the commission left the discussion of this problem open.
