TIRANA - It is still not over with the many problems that have reached the Tirana police office over the 2 April killings, but at a time when people had begun to think that the former policeman might be far from Albania, last night he was arrested by police at his home. He was hiding in his residence and came out only when everything seemed to be calming down. 2 April 1991 has once again returned to the center of attention and the investigations are now taking a new course. According to newspaper sources, the wanted policeman was immediately transferred to Tirana, where he will be held in prison.
The former commissioner of Peshkopi, called by school friends Besnik Ceka, has been questioned after his arrest about his role in the events of 2 April. So far, testimony points to suspicious movements in the days before the event, as well as contacts with other persons involved. Sources close to the investigation said that for several months he had been staying at his home on the outskirts, while rumors circulated that he had crossed the border.
Police and Prosecutor’s Office have resumed checks on other persons as well, while new confrontations are expected. Several new witnesses have been questioned and the file is expected to be supplemented with additional evidence. According to the same sources, the arrest is considered an important turning point for fully uncovering what happened in Shkodër on 2 April 1991.
