TIRANA—“Within ten days, Nano will be before the judges again.” This time the message was brought to Tirana by the socialist leader’s lawyers themselves, just a few hours after returning from a brief meeting with their client at Tepelena Prison. At the court in this town—next Monday, since yesterday was a day off—Nano’s lawyers will file a petition for a review of Nano’s case which, according to Sanxhaku, “if he is tried under the laws currently in force, will send him home immediately.” Meanwhile—for the first time since the PS leader’s conviction—Sanxhaku told Gazeta Shqiptare that “in addition to the evidence already made public in the proceedings against Nano, we have now obtained considerable new evidence—secured outside Albania—which conclusively confirms his innocence.”

TIRANA—The Ministry of the Interior is calming citizens gripped by panic following reports about the spread of child abductions. “The spreading of panic is an act of psychological terror,” the Ministry’s spokesperson said in these blunt words yesterday afternoon in a statement read during several consecutive editions of the television news program. The Ministry has decided to ease the panic and report “all those who have speculated without basis on this sensitive issue,” including the parents of the three children from Shkodër, who had told the press and the police that they had been abducted by unknown persons. Meanwhile, further investigations are continuing in Shkodër to clarify the robbery incident, about which the police now have no doubt: it was staged.

TIRANA — Everyone gathered around the ashure. Yesterday, Saturday, became a day of joy for thousands of believers. The Bektashis—and not only they—chose the most significant celebration of their faith: Ashure. A dish of the simple sweet brought young and old together at the World Bektashi Headquarters, along with representatives of other religions, politicians—including President Berisha himself—and diplomats. A day to be remembered for a long time.
A long history links the famous Bektashi sweet to this celebration. Their tradition recounts that Imam Ali Hysen’s warriors, during their worship by Bektashi believers, were fed with all the harsh verses in the events of Karbala.
Berisha himself offered the believers these wishes: “The Ashure celebration is a symbol of heroism and sacrifice for humanity.” “Honoring this day and honoring Imam Hysen,” Berisha added, among other things, “is honoring sacrifice for human sacrifice, for something greater, for something better.” Yesterday, the Headquarters was also visited by several political figures and representatives of the diplomatic corps in Tirana.
