Securities: young people are in line too

Distribution begins for the two groups aged 18 to 55 Soon, every day in the capital, securities are being distributed for the two vouchers worth 10,000 lek; the elderly will receive vouchers worth 15,000 lek TIRANA - People waiting in long lines in front of the distribution centers have already grown used to waiting from early morning. This scene is repeated almost every day in several of Tirana’s post offices. A large number of pensioners and disabled people have been waiting for weeks in line to receive the compensation vouchers. After the pensioners who followed on 17 June and the pensioners before on 1 January 1996, the government has decided to continue distributing them to the other two age groups, those from 18-55 and 55-70. Thus the gradual distribution will continue for all citizens living in Tirana. The centers will be the same and a large number of citizens will be at the same points for a long time. Yesterday citizens received the rules for the other two groups. The younger ones, born from 1 January 1940 to 31 December 1977, will appear at the post offices with identification documents and a family certificate. According to the announcement, distribution will be made according to a schedule based on the streets previously designated. The older people in the other group will also appear at the designated points. Also yesterday at Tirana’s central post office a board had been posted with the order by streets and centers. The instructions were placed in visible places, while some citizens waited in line for hours. At several counters there were also complaints about delays and mismatches of names on the lists. Under these conditions, the number of people appearing at the post offices is expected to increase even more in the coming days. The distribution of securities remains one of the most closely followed processes by the citizens of the capital.

“The Cassation judges will not leave”

The PD group had put forward a request for their replacement The PD group withdraws its request for their replacement “The Cassation judges will not leave” TIRANA - It has become clear that the request submitted to President Sali Berisha, Speaker of Parliament Pjeter Arbnori, chairman of the legal affairs committee Ylli Vejsiu and chairman of the constitutional committee Spartak Ngjela by 29 PD deputies from the Tirana branch, asking for the replacement of the members of the Court of Cassation, was ill-considered, because the request is not supported by any article of the constitution. If the PD parliamentary group were to do such a thing, it would create a dangerous precedent for the future. For this reason the parliamentary group does not intend to take the request any further. “We made this request, but we will not insist any further,” declared a PD deputy. (continued on page 5)
