KORÇË - The city of Korçë had been scheduled for Mother Teresa’s visit. The renowned missionary of Albanian origin has been travelling in Albania for several days. To welcome Mother Teresa on her first visit to Korçë, many residents had turned out, along with the city’s Prefect, Perin Kiri, and the Mayor, Gjergji Gjniko. “The first charitable activity on the eve of the democratic process,” Prefect Kiri said, “was your mission. It is the concrete and exemplary work carried out by this mission that has earned the respect of the citizens of Korçë. It is our duty to donate to this mission the building where Mother Teresa’s sisters live today and which also serves the orphans for inclusion.” On this occasion, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, after thanking those who had organized the welcome for her visit, said that “this building will once again be a shelter for orphans and the sick.” The day was very busy for the missionary Mother, as she also attended Sunday Mass, celebrated by the Apostolic Nuncio, Monsignor Ivan Diaz, at the Catholic Church of the Resurrection of the City.

The government grants 26 million lekë TIRANË - “Failure to allocate the 26-million-lekë fund will suspend the activities of Albafilm Studios.” This was the most important statement with which the Minister of Culture, Teodor Laço, concluded the report accompanying the draft decision—now approved—of the Government, concerning three actors, technicians, cameramen and make-up artists facing extraordinary financial difficulties with the films to be shown on screen: “Bolero”, “Dasma e Sakos” and “Nata”. The sum of 26 million will save Albafilm, both by covering the expenses of the three films still in the filming stages and for future plans. Thus, four feature films and five documentaries will be in prospect for production and, finally, will not remain only on their creators’ blank sheets of paper—a fate that has been almost unavoidable for many others. Reverting to its previous decisions approving budgets for each institution, the Government had allocated Albafilm a sum of 35 million lekë, of which 29 million were for its expenses and 6 million for “the production of a film project in French-Polish-Albanian cooperation”. Of this total sum, once approved, 21 million were used to cover salaries and social insurance contributions. Meanwhile, another 14 million went towards purchasing raw materials, props and wardrobe, and eliminating travel and per diem expenses. In any case, receiving this funding is very good news for all the artists who, under present conditions, make sacrifices beyond all limits to produce a film. Arlinda Çausolli
