Foreign investments in EBRD’s focus
Annual report on transition
In 3 years, 130 million dollars have entered Albania, or 38 dollars per capita. But it is domestic resources that should finance medium-term investments.
TIRANA - Albania must further improve the legal mechanisms for handling foreign investments by increasing its attractiveness to them, at a time when competition among Eastern and Central European countries to attract financial resources from the West is becoming increasingly fierce. This is the conclusion of the 1995 Transition Report of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

"Here is how we will cooperate"
TIRANA - Ilir Meta, the youngest vice-chairman of the Albanian socialists, was received yesterday in Rome by Piero Fassino, a well-known deputy and the foreign affairs chief of the powerful Italian left-wing party, the Democratic Party of the Left. Following the meeting held in Tirana last week between Meta and Fassino, according to Italian sources, the two left-wing politicians primarily discussed relations between the two countries and the two parties. Fassino emphasized the importance of Albania as one of the priorities of his country’s foreign policy. "With Operation Pelikan," said Dr. Fassino, "Italy helped Albania overcome a dramatic emergency situation."

Berisha’s memory of Mitterrand:
“After I was elected, he invited me first”
TIRANA - Berisha saddened by the death of François Mitterrand. "He was the protagonist of a united Europe," said the Albanian head of state, paying tribute to the great statesman of the French nation.
"I keep an indelible memory of Mitterrand. He was the first head of state to receive me immediately after my election as President of Albania," was Berisha’s message released by his office to the press. Only two days earlier, François Mitterrand, former President of France and a distinguished figure in European politics, had passed away. "He has always supported Albania and its integration into Europe," Berisha emphasized, recalling the invitation the French President had extended to him in Paris in '92.
