TIRANA - It was not a break, only a relationship interrupted for 15 years that now seems to be coming back to life, or so at least suggests the result of the first day of Berisha's mission in the capital of the country with the world's largest population, Beijing. News agencies carefully reported this meeting between the president of one of the smallest states in the Balkans and that of the Asian giant, which nevertheless continues to uphold communist ideology.

"Find me a country where he can live"
ELBASAN - "Find me a country where he can live." The Albanian Museum of Geanënhatëletësisë leaves him without economic support, and aftalian has remained so until the last month of last year, as confirmed on a civil-status document. The story, quite tragic for the person himself, is that of Sllovenko Xhudoviq, an Albanian citizen of Montenegrin origin. A request made some time ago to have Albanian citizenship revoked seems to have been the only reason for all the "surprises" surrounding Xhudoviq, of Montenegrin descent.
In 1990, he filed a request to have his Albanian citizenship revoked, because his aim was to leave for his homeland, Montenegro. But while the revocation of citizenship has now been helped along, the same has not happened with the second part of Xhudoviq's plans. He has been prevented from leaving for Montenegro, and now he is left with no citizenship at all, neither Albanian nor Montenegrin. Letters addressed to the People's Assembly and the President of the Republic are proof of the desperate efforts of a man looking for a country in which to live. The lack of Albanian citizenship has truly been a major source of misfortune for Sllovenko Xhudoviq. Since July 1995 he has not been receiving social assistance. According to a decision of the Municipal Council of the Elbasan district, because he is not an Albanian citizen, he has also been denied the right to receive economic support from the state. For the same reason, his son, born on 12 December of last year, has not been registered in the civil-status state register of Elbasan. Arben Dershi

TIRANA - "Bring the fraudulent Greek to Albania." This is the request that State Control has sent to the Ministry of the Interior in order to extradite Ilia Damos, president of the company "ADELIN LTD", who has left Albania taking with him a huge debt to the state. Nearly 600 thousand dollars, which he has "snatched" from state enterprises, now weigh on the case.

Smuggling: the boats resume their voyages
The new measures taken by the Montenegrins have brought back an old profession: the small border trader
SHKODER - The "golden" period of the embargo has long since come to an end, but smuggling on the largest Albanian lake continues to take a new turn. Dozens of boats have begun, especially in recent days, to ply the waters opposite Lepuri, cutting through the frozen deathly silence of the water in order to secure more illegal trade in goods; the illegal trade takes place in the evening or in the late hours of the night. That is what local residents call the cargo arriving by boats loaded with goods destined for the markets of the former Yugoslavia.

The "Bingo" millionaire
The "Bingo" winner
TIRANA - A boom in games of chance for Albanians. After the multimillion-ticket of totofutboll a week earlier, another Albanian has discovered "El Dorado", but this time in the game of chance "Bingo". In a single game played in the hall of the House of Culture, he won around 11 million old lek. The boy, who had bought only 2 cards, simultaneously won "Bingo", the day's accumulated prize, as well as "Extra Bingo" (the value of all three was around 11,000,000 lek). It came in the 40th 30 minutes of 14 January, when the hall lit up to the weight of the magic call "Bingo", but for the first time within 35 numbers. First silence and then the corresponding applause earned him 10,000,000 million old lek. Then he hit and verified as well four literature no. 364, and then the winner, accompanied by a security officer from the hall, became the first Albanian winner of "Extra Bingo".
