History

Tired of life: a young man kills himself BURREL - He did not work like everyone else, and this pushed him toward suicide. The tragic case concerns a young man from the village of Urakë in Mat, the 20-year-old D. Haxhiu. He was found tragically hanged in a room of his house two days ago by his family members. Three years earlier Haxhiu had suffered a car accident, after which, following several days in a coma, he had managed to escape death. But everything had remained unfinished[?]. From the accident the boy had inherited some consequences that prevented him from working and living normally. He felt inferior in society, he could not live like all his peers. Many friends invited him every day to meet them and have fun by drinking a coffee or a glass, but for him these things were forbidden by the doctors. All this had made him feel different from his friends, powerless to build his future like everyone else. Faced with this situation he had made the tragic decision about his life: to end it. To do this he had chosen a house previously abandoned by his family and now used as a storehouse. He had taken a bandiera (a concrete post with an iron spear at the top used to support grapevines in vineyards) and driven its spear into his lower jaw. His body was discovered by chance two days later by one of his relatives. m.k

Berisha in Jerusalem

Weizman: “It is a chance to strengthen our relations” President Berisha in Israel (REUTERS) TIRANE - Talks with President Weizman and Prime Minister Shimon Peres were the highlights of the first day of President Berisha’s visit to Israel. Afterwards, the signing of agreements for the promotion and mutual protection of foreign investments and for the organization of training courses in various sectors also took place. Yesterday at 11.00 local time, an Albanian delegation led by President Berisha arrived at Tel Aviv airport. An hour later, the official welcome ceremony for the Albanian President was held in Jerusalem. “It is our chance to improve relations that have remained neglected for more than since 1990,” said the President of Israel, Weizman, in his greeting, describing Berisha’s visit as historic. Berisha, for his part, underlined the help Israel has given Albania during the democratic processes. Afterwards, Berisha held a working meeting with Prime Minister Peres. The Prime Minister of Israel described Berisha’s visit, taking place at the right time, as a boost to relations between the two countries, relations which he described as having a special tradition. For his part, the Albanian guest, after praising the existing relations, asked for their expansion into all fields such as tourism, agriculture, infrastructure and education. “Albania is showing itself ready to cooperate with foreign partners,” said Berisha, “and in this context we will greatly value your encouragement of Israeli investments. The essence of the privatization process in Albania, as he explained to us in detail, creates many opportunities also for Israeli investors.” On the first day of his visit to Israel, President Berisha also visited the building of the parliament of Israel.

Five cradles from one birth: a record in a maternity ward

A woman from Vushtri in Kosovo gives birth to quintuplets TIRANE - “The basketball team” is now making its first appearance: who has more, who drinks more. It is one of the rarest stories to come out of maternity wards. In a foreign clinic a little group of five babies[?] entered the special list of “records” as the second set of quintuplets. The newborns are now in full health, weighing from 1,300 to 1,750 grams, and are out of danger for their lives. The 27-year-old[?] mother had a difficult birth and, after a Caesarean operation, is in good condition, as is the entire medical staff. This is the event that has caused considerable excitement among Kosovo families. A woman named Shëhnie Bekteshi - living in Vushtri - was admitted with a word afterwards from behind, perhaps being “the best example of the Kosovo tradition of having many children,” joked the nurses at the gynecological clinic “Narodni Front” in Belgrade. Earlier, the woman from Vushtri had been informed that she was carrying five babies. Somewhat astonished by the large number of new family members, but nevertheless she told her husband quite calmly: “we must prepare immediately 5 cradles” (A.F.)
