TIRANA - Relations between Gjinushi and Godo have become even more strained. Yesterday’s statements by the social-democratic leader, who accused the PR of “political servility” toward the DP, have ushered the conflict between the two leaders into a new phase. “The PR voted for the referendum so that the DP would win. For this, he said the winner should go ahead, just as it happened in March with Ramiz Alia.” That was Gjinushi’s “sinful” statement, which just a few minutes later prompted the PR chairman to respond sharply. “It was not a sharp retort,” Sabri Godo explains.

Message from Berisha rehabilitates Malëshova
TIRANA - Recognition of the role of a moderate left, an appeal to distance itself from extremism, and to follow the path opened by many interned Albanian figures: this was the essence of the message Berisha sent yesterday to the Congress of Albanian Social Democrats, convened in Tirana.
For the first time, the President has rehabilitated the names of Gjinushi, Malëshova, Kokalarit, Jakova, Peço, Kaginis and Pajo Ismaili, who, according to him, are people who “fell, were imprisoned, interned and tortured in the communist ordeal for their European social-democratic ideals.” Thus, names that until just a few years ago had been put on communist blacklists and that lately had fallen into the “oblivion” of Albanian politics, including that of left-wing forces, now seem to have found the place they deserve. In his message, Berisha expressed confidence in the role of the Albanian Social Democrats and in their distancing themselves from the left-wing extremists, whom the President once again did not hesitate to include in the “red front.”

TIRANA - The European left fully supports the political left in Albania.
Now in the Albanian capital, and not hesitating at all to speak openly about their true positions, European leftists have spoken out against the policies of the DP government. Jean-François Valen, Secretary General of the Party of European Socialists, as well as Marco Bianchini, representative of the Italian Democratic Party of the Left, have strongly criticized the current DP leadership in Albania, expressing profound dissatisfaction. They have even openly declared their desire for a triumph of the left in Albania. “I would like to come to Albania in May or June to celebrate the victory of the left-wing forces,” PSE leader Valen told Gazeta Shqiptare yesterday.

TIRANA - A volley of shotgun fire on the outskirts of Tirana, and a 55-year-old man together with his son have paid for it with their lives.
The two, father and son, residents of Allias in Tirana, were buried yesterday, while police are searching for the perpetrator of the massacre.
