Some time ago, the Legality Party was the first to put forward the idea of holding a referendum to determine Albania’s constitutional order by vote. But only after the “League” meeting does the Legalists’ proposal seem to have found suitable support across almost the entire spectrum of Albanian politics.

TIRANA - Albanian political parties say “yes” to a referendum on the constitutional form of the state. Although yesterday they “confessed” their wish for Albania to remain a republic, they have nevertheless given the “green light” to implementing the people’s will: “let them decide by referendum.” But fierce objections are coming from the DP camp. Unlike the other parties, the party currently leading the country has remained steadfast in its position. Through Tritan Shehu, yesterday the DP once again expressed the view that “Albania has clearly defined its constitutional forms in its constitutional provisions. We are for a republic; we are united on this.”

TIRANA — Yesterday the Albanian opposition “offered” its political endorsement of the latest report by the U.S. Department of State. Only the DP Secretary General, Tritan Shehu, expressed his objections regarding this report, even though, according to Shehu, the DP viewed it “as something positive.” But regarding all the problematic issues in this report — such as the judiciary’s dependence on the executive, the activity of SHIK in investigations involving some journalists and other people who were arrested. Almost all the venues, as rarely before, have had a very high female turnout. In groups, they have filled the tables, and their voices have rung out through the restaurants. Yesterday was truly a business bonanza for sellers of artificial flowers. The only shop in Tirana selling natural flowers had emptied all its vases in the early hours of the morning. But politics has not been absent even on this festive day. In many cities, celebrations were held separately along party lines. In Berat, those from the Democratic Party gathered in a venue of their own. Meanwhile, a little farther away, the “opponents” from the opposition parties were celebrating in another restaurant. While many women chose [unclear], there were also [unclear] yesterday. A teacher became the victim of a serious accident and lost her life precisely on the day when she should have felt happiest.
