Yesterday the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office sent one [case] to court and three other files concerning people accused of genocide. TIRANË - Two minors accused of murder are free. Yesterday A.V and LF were released pending investigation by the judges, because the prosecutors had not gathered evidence against them. The two had been arrested a few months earlier, accused of murdering their peer from Tirana, Igli Shullazi. Three times in a row the judges had reviewed their detention at hearings, until yesterday the prosecution requested their release, since, according to it, there was not enough evidence to charge them. The incident for which they had been arrested took place on 29 February, near the Shkolla e Kuqe, where the young Shullazi was killed with a firearm. In connection with the murder, the police had detained A.V from Vlora and LF from Elbasan. On the 4th of this month the court had ordered their detention in absentia, and on the 20th the two young men appeared before the judges, who upheld the detention order. They appeared in court again, but this time the accusation against them was only a suspicion. “There is not enough evidence, so they should be released.” This is what the prosecutor requested, and what the court decided. Nevertheless, the victim’s family members are convinced that the killers of their son are precisely [them]. “They are the ones who killed my son; I remember their faces, because for several days they had been watching my house,” said the victim’s mother, who also sent a letter to the Deputy Prosecutor General, Justice Minister Frashëri, and President Berisha. p.re

The Democratic Alliance protests strongly. TIRANË - The Democratic Alliance Party protests the publication in the press of blackmail and slander against its candidates for parliament in the upcoming elections. A statement by the PD says that immediately after the party submitted its parliamentary candidates to the State Commission for the Verification of Officials’ Backgrounds, “the sources of today’s secret police reacted in their press using such familiar methods of blackmail and slander, implicating and seeking to influence the State Commission for the Verification of Officials’ Backgrounds.” On page 3.

It was the penultimate day of parliamentary proceedings that put Albanian sport on a sounder legal footing. Gjok Vata reacts to the way works are selected. “Strike over my songs.” Strong protest by the singer from Shkodër. TIRANË - “Strike over my songs”! This is the first time a musician has reacted so strongly. Gjok Vata, the only blind singer-songwriter to have appeared in our national competitions, has expressed his indignation in a letter that has arrived at Radio Television. The fact that Vata’s compositions have not advanced to the final selection for another season seems to have prompted him to take up his “pen,” with which he poured his anger onto the letter. From Shkodër, the man who had sung at the first Albanian [event] in his city has not held back from [unclear] and from some of his successes and foreign songs of [unclear] works. A television programme, intended to make [him] known to the public, named them “This is the request of the blind singer-songwriter.” The man from Shkodër sets out everything he has achieved in his creative work so far. Having appeared on the stage of the 31st Song Festival and in “Songs in the Season,” Gjok Vata would be absent after the competition… and after the competition… although, if there were a programme with a concert, then [unclear] the performance… the recording of part of the vocal song for the documentary film “Arkimidi”; the singer in Albania was interviewed by a team from German television R.K.T, shown on the VOKS and SATV channels in the second half of last August. Emphasizing the difficulties involved in this production, Gjok Vata also carefully pointed out that he had sung in Albanian for the first time in November 1990, on the same day as the democratic gathering in Shkodër. For all these songs, he asks to be recognized, as compensation for his indignation, through a request for his compositions and other songs to be considered in the artistic season.
