The “files” are reopened for the first 12 names TIRANA - The Court of Cassation took another decision yesterday, warning of the reopening of the criminal proceedings against 26 MPs and candidates whose candidacies for registration were definitively rejected. Thus, the Cassation hearing held yesterday decided that the Court of Appeal’s decision, which had rejected the request by K. Vangjeli of the Socialist Party to allow him to run as a deputy in the 26 May elections, be annulled. This means that the Supreme Court orders a retrial of Vangjeli’s request for registration of his candidacy in the 26 May elections. In practice, this Cassation decision also represents the first case of overturning an Appeal Court ruling that had upheld the Verification Commission’s rejection of a deputy’s candidacy in the 26 May elections.
