With the young people in the city “killed” by drugs

Shijak: a journey into families shaken by the “plague of the century” Switzerland: the source of this wealth, but also of the tragedy of many ordinary people. Drug users: “We are asking for help” It is Saturday afternoon, a day that should normally be quiet. In Shijak, people go on with their normal lives: home, coffee, a little conversation, some small task, and then back home again. The day is interrupted only by the occasional meeting with an acquaintance, talk about what was said on television last night, what the newspapers say, and what is expected from the new elections. If someone has something to say, all the better. This is everyday life in this city, caught between the weight of two bustling metropolises, Tirana and Durrës. Its nearly 11,000 residents have already found a way to survive during this period of emigration. “I have someone abroad”; after these words, in most cases, only one place is mentioned: Switzerland. For many families, this place brings to mind a hated name: drugs. “Our friend who is with us seems to be at home here. Look, I spent two weeks here; a young man was in very serious condition. The person walking over there in the distance is one of the drug users. I have struggled a lot with him, but I still haven’t managed to cure him”...
