Long queues have reappeared. The cause: rising wheat prices on the world market
TIRANË - The bread problem has become tangible throughout the country. The main item on the Albanian table has undergone a considerable price increase. “Gazeta Shqiptare” surveyed many bakeries and found that at least ten types of bread are being sold underweight. According to traders, this is due to the rise in the price of wheat on the international market and, at the same time, the decline in domestic production of this crop. Bakeries suspending production and queues that tend to grow longer: this is the scene becoming prevalent in all Albanian cities. But the consequences of such a situation fall on ordinary consumers, who feel unprotected against the increase in the actual price of bread.

Five injured: that is the initial toll of the battle, which could have been even more fatal had a criminal police officer who was inside the establishment not intervened. The killers fled in three cars, and there is still no information about the motive for the unusual attack.

TIRANË - To bring a vehicle into Albania, you have to pay more than you have paid up to now. It is the Value Added Tax that obliges you to pay a larger sum of money at the customs checkpoint. Previously, for a used car with a limit price of 1,500 dollars, you had to pay 600 dollars in customs duties, whereas today—adding VAT of 125 percent on the 600-dollar customs duty, as well as the floor price of USD 1,500—you have to pay 262.5 dollars more for the same car, or USD 862.5.

TIRANË - Kastiot Islami was questioned yesterday at the General Prosecutor’s Office. For more than an hour and a half, he answered the 91 questions and recounted what he knew about April and the events in Shkodër e Bashkuar. “There was no specific accusation against me or complaint against me personally.” This is what the current PSN spokesperson confirmed to the journalists waiting behind the doors. TIRANË - Another Socialist climbed the steps of the Prosecutor’s Office yesterday.
Summoned to give testimony about election manipulation, Ylli Bufi told investigators about the role he played as an SP member of the Central Electoral Commission. “No comment,” he told the journalists waiting behind the bars. “It was simply a private visit,” Bufi added, preferring not to say more. Sources inside the Prosecutor’s Office report that Bufi was questioned to shed light on the investigation being conducted by the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office into the “election manipulation” case. Just two days before the elections, Bufi had been named as implicated in the records completed in favor of the SP. Officially, the investigation into Bufi began on May 25, but investigators called him in only yesterday to give his first answers about an issue that caused a storm in the media and press.

A year later, on the order of the International Criminal Tribunal for war crimes, the excavation of mass graves has begun, where thousands of bodies were buried, perhaps even alive.
Although they have been found guilty, the perpetrators of the Srebrenica massacre and of dozens of massacres throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina are still at large. The appeals from The Hague, the rare and chilling testimonies of the witnesses who managed to survive, and the graves—the living evidence of the crime—have not troubled either Karaxhiç or Mlladiç at all. And as one year passes, another begins; people are still seeking justice for the dead, but it still seems very far away.

A decision by the juvenile court in Frozinone, Italy, permanently separates a mother from her newborn baby. The sad story began a week ago, when the Albanian woman M.K abandoned her newborn two days after giving birth. “I gave birth to the child, now they are keeping him alive.” With her wounds still unhealed, the 35-year-old mother leaves the hospital with a hospital [sic] of her newborn daughter. “I’m afraid my fellow countrymen will sell her,” she says as she leaves in the dark, heading for an unknown destination. A prostitute in Italy for several months, M.K had been forced to practice her trade by some Albanians in a [unclear]. Then came an emergency admission to the city’s maternity ward and, a week ago, the premature birth of her child. Fear that her fellow countrymen would sell the [unclear] child forced the mother to leave the baby at the maternity ward. Sought and detained by the Frozinone police, M.K learned yesterday of the Italian judges’ fateful decision. “The child will be hers and will receive care,” [unclear] the juvenile court, to separate the mother permanently under this court’s authority, so that the child will not know the true [unclear] of the woman who brought her into the world.
