Some of the Secretary-Generals in the Prime Minister’s Office, assigned to PR, and another post, that of State Secretary for Transport, were given to the Democratic Party. PBDNJ and BK have been left out of the cabinet. A government brimming with young people, with four women among its members. Zhulali, Panariti, Xhaja and Cikuli have not moved from their former posts, while Shamataj has been catapulted into the sensitive post of Minister of the Interior, and Bode into that of Minister of Finance. From the deputy prime minister’s chair, Vrioni moves down to that of Minister of Privatization, while Halili finds himself a minister without a portfolio. One more post for PD leader Sali Berisha. The Deputy Prime Minister also rises to the number-one post in Albanian diplomacy, displacing Minister Serreqi, who is left without any position in Meksi 2’s cabinet. “Everything has been done along the lines of a total renewal of the PD and its other levels.” Shehu commented on yesterday’s changes in these terms, also offering assurances to those who were left behind. “I thank all the ministers who are no longer in office, but who have made a name for themselves through their work and dedication,” Shehu concludes. THE NEW CABINET TIRANA - They have not managed to get into the Meksi 2 cabinet. PBDNJ and BK have been left out of the government’s leadership structures, even though recently the comments were rife with speculation about their slim chances of joining the cabinet. “Personally, I was not expecting any ministerial post,” Melo told the press, not long after Berisha decreed the government. “We did not discuss senior posts.” Another response comes from BK headquarters. According to Selfo, his party had expected to receive not ministerial posts but lower-level positions in the Meksi 2 government. An unemployed man from Lushnje gambled the last 50 lek he had left, and luck struck him at home, winning him 11 million dollars. Just five minutes before leaving the house, he had given a beggar woman 100 lek, thinking she needed it more than he did. Sami Haxtiu, 34, from Lushnje, nearly went mad with surprise on Wednesday morning when he realized he had won 11 million dollars at bingo. An unemployed father of six, he went into a gambling hall on Tuesday evening with only 150 lek in his pocket. Together with his wife, he had 11 people [unclear] his fault. But just a few minutes before he began playing, an elderly woman “approached the Haxtiu couple on the street.” “Please give me something; may God reward you and your children.” The beggar’s words prompted the man to divide up his modest ticket.
