President Berisha, Deputy Prime Minister Shehu, ministers, relatives and friends bowed yesterday morning over the red coffin to bid a final farewell to the highest-ranking official of the prison administration. Journalist Ndoja asked me about the reasons that led us to join this protest, and I explained that there were two main reasons, the most important being taxes and duties that are suffocating the press, for which I gave my arguments; secondly, the case of a single newspaper being financed by a foundation. Only the second part was included in the report. The justification that it was “a matter of time” does not hold, because I was not informed of the airtime available. TIRANA — PS. The Socialist Party’s office confirmed a bilateral meeting between some of the parties’ leaders, without giving their names. The first day of the week was set as the most suitable time for a meeting between the leading figures of Albanian politics. Begun two weeks ago, the dialogue between the PD and PS has proceeded along the lines of the framework accepted by both sides. A meeting between the leaders, technical procedures defined by party specialists, and then another meeting of the party chiefs. This was the framework developed and implemented by the two parties’ political teams. At the latest meeting between mid-level technical representatives, it was decided that one of the days of the coming week would be “the right time for the leading figures to meet.” Monday was chosen as the day most acceptable to both sides for continuing the dialogue, where it had been left 10 days earlier.
