"Hello" with a bomb: alarm and panic among telephone exchange workers
Tirana, the "voice" is being sought
A few minutes after the alarm
TIRANA - A mysterious "hello" at the DIN telephone exchange: "We have planted a bomb in the building. Get out." The call was made at 19:40, and a few minutes later the police arrived. They searched for the bomb, but the bomb-disposal experts said it was a false alarm. Telecom specialists are working on a computer to find the number of the mysterious subscriber.

Kaloshi’s murder: was it a blood feud?
Investigations following the trail of an old crime
TIRANA - The arrest carried out on Friday by the Italian mobile squad in Brescia has strengthened one line of investigation. The capture of Zyhdi Dedej has reinforced the hypothesis that has been circulating for some time: that the events of 26 July, the day on which the Director of Prisons, Bujar Kaloshi, was killed by his attackers, are connected to an enigmatic event that took place almost three years earlier. At that time, near Peshkopi, a driver then employed by the Presidency, the brother of the arrested Dedej, was found dead in his car while returning to Tirana; he was the brother of Bujar Kaloshi, then an employee of the Presidency. This has not yet been fully confirmed, but it appears that the latest investigations have focused precisely on this line. It is reported that in the first days after 26 July, investigators questioned the elderly mother of Zydi Dedej, who lives in Tirana.

TIRANE - Low wages, failure to provide conditions for medical treatment, and acceptance of bribes/gifts. But while nurses, organized in their union, are fighting for higher wages, doctors have never joined them in this demand, even though their salaries range from 8,000 to 12,000 lek. The state does not raise wages, thinking that “doctors earn more elsewhere,” while doctors [say] they would earn more if their wages were raised.” But what do they themselves think?

TIRANA - Few surprises in the opening Cup matches.
Even where surprises did occur, they were due more to the coaches’ willingness to experiment than to the winners’ abilities. Schumacher was first in the official Formula 1 practice sessions in Budapest. The championships have begun in Scotland and France. Glasgow and Paris SG, Olympique Marseille, have already won their opening matches.

Godo opposes Mingomata
TIRANA - “Here is the truth about the split in the PR.”
It is the party’s leader, Sabri Godo, who casts a “white veil” over Republican unity. Just one day earlier, his deputy Mingomata had launched harsh accusations against Godo, describing him as a “failed politician.” “Mingomata should keep his passions in check,” Godo responded yesterday. According to him, “the party chairman’s fate is decided by the Party Congress, not by newspaper editorial offices.” Brushing aside the clash with the party triumvirate, Godo appeals: “Away with petty passions.”

The police were protecting the merchant robbers
GJIROKASTER - Roadblock manned by fake police officers.
Two merchants from Gjirokaster and their driver were robbed, brutally beaten, and ended up in hospital at the hands of the “police” gang. While being searched, the merchants handed over 7 million lek, and only in this way did they escape even more tragic consequences. They are now being treated at Gjirokaster hospital, while the police station, which denies that the “roadblock” was set up by its officers, has begun pursuing the perpetrators. The victims reported that after the attack the robbers—who were not masked—left the scene in a car with Fier license plates.
They were travelling on Saturday morning toward Tirana in their Mercedes to stock up on food supplies. P. K., 40, E. Sh., 45, and their driver were stopped near Tepelene by three men. Wearing police uniforms, they signalled for the truck to stop and asked the passengers to show their documents. The driver became suspicious of the “policemen” and tried to drive away, but was hit with rubber batons and forcibly pulled out of the vehicle. He was thrown into a ditch, where they continued beating him. One of the “policemen” put a pistol to one merchant’s forehead and threatened him, demanding that he reveal where they had the money; they then robbed them of 7 million lek. The other merchant, beaten and [unclear], suffered a severe leg fracture from the blows, and doctors believe he will be unable to avoid the consequences of the injury for the rest of his life. The three “policemen,” after taking everything they could, drove away in a car with Fier license plates, while the robbed men ended up in hospital.
