Police barricade, bloody protest

Five police officers and 20 residents, among them 4 children, were injured. Later the police detained 20 people. One of the arrested was taken to hospital in serious condition, while the others were escorted to police station no. 6. Meanwhile, residents of the area stated that their protest against the demolition of homes came as a result of the state’s irresponsibility, which, according to them, had allowed them to build for years and now is demanding that they leave by force. Dilo) TIRANË - Yesterday around 10:00 a large police force, made up of public order units and special units, intervened to demolish several unauthorized constructions in the area known as “New Bathore”. Immediately the residents went out into the street and tried to block the police entry. The situation then escalated to the use of stones, sticks and hard objects against the police forces. The police responded with rubber batons and tear gas. The clash lasted about an hour. According to police sources, 5 police officers were injured, while residents say there are at least 20 injured on their side, among them women and children. Residents say they will not allow the houses to be demolished, because they have nowhere else to go. At one point the situation got out of control and the police made several escortings and arrests. One detainee was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The incident also triggered numerous reactions from residents of nearby areas, who gathered in support of the protesters. According to them, the constructions were built with the knowledge of the institutions and cannot be demolished without an alternative solution. Billions in privatization vouchers distributed

40-thousand-lek bundles removed from circulation TIRANË - More than 1 million privatization vouchers with a nominal value of 700 million USD were put into circulation in the country. They will be used in the privatization process of enterprises and state assets. According to official sources, banks and financial institutions have begun distributing them, while the 40-thousand-lek bundles have been withdrawn from circulation.
