crowned last night with the beauty of the Continent. The Englishwoman Marie-Claire Harrison is the winner of “Miss Europe ’96.” For the 23-year-old model, it is the most important event of her life. “I hope it will help me realize my dream of becoming an actress or a television show host. Albania will remain an unforgettable memory for me. I want to greet and thank everyone in this beautiful country.” For the winner of Miss Europe, the company “Glallica” has awarded a prize of 20 thousand dollars, the largest prize ever given in the history of Miss Europe—and Miss England will take all the gifts with her. She will also receive a 100-year-old traditional costume from Central Albania. Miss Greece, 24-year-old Nonie Dounia, the favorite of the company “Glallica,” was also very pleased.
There were Belarus. For the five beauties, the show’s official sponsor, “Glallica,” offered 35 thousand dollars. But the beauty contest brought tears for Miss Italy, Anna Valle, who said she had not expected to be eliminated: “At least I thought I could make it into the top five.” Last year’s Italian Miss left the stage upset, but said, “I want to greet all my Albanian friends; they have been wonderful to me.”
The “Miss Europe” show was watched by 18 European countries, and some of them broadcast live from Albania.
It was a lovely gift offered by the Miss Albania Committee together with the director Grabocka. After about 20 days with the most beautiful women of the continent, the event culminated in a wonderful celebration.

THE FIER TRAGEDY
FIER—Tears and horror in the village where the tragedy took place. Three members of a family, massacred with an automatic weapon for reasons still unknown, were buried the evening before last. Only a 10-year-old little girl miraculously survived; she witnessed the crime at midnight. She needs medical help because she is deeply shaken. Many people go to offer their condolences at the house where the crime took place, a home marked by extreme poverty and death. Even strangers come. Everyone says that the criminals should receive the death penalty. So far, a number of people have been taken to the police station for questioning in connection with the incident, and it is reported that two people suspected of taking part in the crime have also been detained. The motive for this monstrous act remains unclear.
