Chaos at bank counters
At the Tregtare branches: “Where is the money?”
Yesterday in the capital, many people refused the payments
TIRANA - Confusion and lost time in front of the offices distributing the capital’s residents’ money. “Where is office 24/17? They told us these vouchers would get the money at the beginning of this month!” While few people seem to be withdrawing their deposits, others are bewildered by the lists or the number of counters. Meanwhile, some people—perhaps most of them—have gone to the bank counters, but are refusing to take the money. For two days running, the atmosphere has been uncertain among dozens of clients who, already disappointed by the “Populli” and “Xhaferri” foundations, are being sent from one place to another among the state kiosks set up in several neighborhoods of Tirana. Accurate information seems to be the one thing these citizens still lack, while many of them also refused yesterday to withdraw their deposits. “I’m not taking that money at all; I put in 3 million ndërrasa and now they’re only giving half. Let them keep it; I’ve given it up.” These words, or something similar, were heard among the disappointed people in front of many branches of the Savings Bank and the National Commercial Bank.

Companies unite: “A bank to save us”
Vefa, Cenaj, Kamberi and Silva seek a solution
TIRANA - The “Financial Union” is seeking to establish the first private bank. Four major companies still standing—“Vefa”, “Kamberi”, “Cenaj” and “Silva”—have joined forces to save their network. “We will support one another [?], we will help each other pay off our debts” - this is what Vefa president Vehbi Alimuca said yesterday at a press conference organized by the heads of the four companies mentioned above.

Kavajë, parties make peace: “Let’s protect the city”
PD and PS sit together at the same table
KAVAJË - Tensions between PS and PD in Kavajë. The city’s two largest political forces sat down yesterday at a joint table. Other groups, such as BK and the right-wing parties, also sat around the table. “We will protect the city from possible violence.” This was the shared concern of representatives of all political sides in the city, who also decided on anti-looting measures. A peaceful rally, in which all groups and their respective electorates will participate, has been scheduled to take place soon in the city center.
A peace meeting between the PD and PS of Kavajë has also taken place. The branches of both parties have found common ground on the future of their city. “First and foremost, I am a citizen of Kavajë, and only then a party leader,” the city’s Socialist Party chairman is reported to have said. Just a few days ago, Interior Minister Shamata said the same thing, declaring: “I’m coming to Kavajë as one of its citizens, not as a minister.” The idea of a protective barrier against possible destruction in the city has also been supported by other political forces. Unlike in the metropolis, where PS and PD have taken sharply opposed positions on the makeup and future of the protests, the parties in the outlying areas seem to be responding in favor of unity. “Above all, the whole city.” This is the slogan circulating among the Kavajë PS and PD offices. If police are needed in Kavajë, leaders of the political forces will be sent out, promising that their electorate will take to the squares and streets peacefully. (Qe. Ca)
